Hi guys just bought myself a locost and I'm wondering how much bhp it has the engine is a modified 1.6 xflow from a mk 1 escort the build list is
as follows
Ford 1600 xflow bored out to 1660
Vulcan engineering maxiflow big valve cylinder head
Twin 40 dellortos carbs
Piper cross air filters
4 into 1 tubular manifold
Standard 4 speed ford escort gearbox
Hepolite pistons
A2 cam
High flow pressure oil pump
New followers
New big end
Anyone have a similar build or recommend any improvements/ a place to start tweaking I've thought of changing the gearbox to a type 9 any info
would be appreciated
My car has a similar spec engine although a different cam and injection which produces 127 BHP and 118ft lbs of torque .Before you start tweaking get used to the car, they can bite with a lot less power. Welcome to the site
Cheers for your reply from the sound of it my original guess of around 120 isn't that far from the truth does yours have the 4 speed gear box

The cost of doing anything with a X flow to improve the power output is quite high when compared to fitting a Zetec lump, a two Lt. on bike carbs should produce something like 150BHP . At the moment I'm happy with my engine but have been considering the swap to Zetecy
I'll be happy with it around the 120plus area for now just curious as to what to expect I'm going to get the car cleaned up sorted out the get it on the rolling road for a true figure in the next few months just wonderd if there's any upgrades in terms of reliability worth doing
If not already fitted , steel rocker posts an shaft, allows engine to rev without the rocker shaft flexing. one piece crankshaft pulley as the pressed steel ones tend to break
Cheers mate I'll look into it what cam and carbs/ injection do you have on yours
I have a Kent cams BCF2 and a set of Kawasaki ZZR 1100 throttle bodies controlled by an Emerald ECU
From what I've seen the bcf2 is supposed to be a better cam than the a2 not too sure about the bike throttle bodies tho is it an expensive mod
My 1700 had 130 BHP now changed to Kawasaki zx9 141bhp

My old 1700cc with unknown internals had 110bhp. That was with Dellorto 40s. The original dyno from 1999 shows 118bhp but the tuner couldn't get near that when I had it on a rolling road a few years ago.
