Yeah, more involved test means they can put prices up.

Problem is that the garage that do our MOt's for us always charge full price and give us a discount which we pass on to the customer. We are in
the process of designing a new leaflet but want it to be valid into next year so need to know what they are going to go up to so we dont loose money
on MOT's

Sounds a bit like the SVA to IVA change then? Add a couple of items to test and wack the price up by 137%
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Is this anything to be concerned about? :
Engine performance:
(a) Control unit illegally modified.
(b) Illegal engine modifications

Seems like a VERY grey area. AFAIK there is no such thing as an illegal engine or "Control unit" modification. Only a modification that
took the emissions over the limits would be classed as a fail but is certainly not illegal.

Illegal modifications are not allowed? Pretty sure that has always been the case...

i wish we could charge that... no such thing as an illegal engine mod. as long as everything that is modified is saftley carried out and it passes
emissions test its ok...

Here's two examples:
Illegal engine modification - putting a 2 litre into a hatchback but leaving the v5 with a 1.0 litre on it making it cheaper to tax/insure.
Illegal ECU change - making the engine produce more CO2 than the band you're paying tax for.
Spot the theme...

Yes
The chav boy racers who have 2 ltr corsa insured as 1.2's who crash into you and then the insurance won't pay out will be found out before
this happens ( good thing IMHO )
The higher emissions usually means more power ( see above statement )
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

There was a thread about this regarding MOT failiures for modified and remap engines and a few people who were qualified MOT men assured us this was
not the case and might have produced evidence. Have a look through and find out.
