Sylva star axle change from viva to magnum?

Sylva star axle - I have a viva 1256 axle on my kitcar and wanted to upgrade to a magnum axle due to the better diff ratio.
I came to the point of fitting it but the propshaft fouls the tunnel - The diff flange appears to be further to the right on the magnum axle.

How did people fit the magnum axle to the sylva leaders? - The only option would be to take an inch off the tunnel as far as i can see but this would mean the propshaft would not run straight.

Better to ask in the Sylva forum.

Propshaft not running straight dosen't matter.

With propshafts as long as the the gearbox output shaft and the diff input shaft are parallel the velocity variation in the universal joints cancel out.

The gearbox flange is in the center but the diff flange is offset to the right so its not parralel

That makes no difference, the flanges will still be parallel (unless e.g. the engine is mounted at an odd angle, or the diff flange come out at an odd angle from the diff).

But the flanges will be a parallel to one another, just not in line.
i.e., both flanges line up with viewed across the vehicle.

The Sylva mailing list is the place to ask this question as Niall Johansson among others still post on there.
He ran Swindon Sportscars so most likely to give a correct answer than any of the rest of us.

I've probably spent his name wrong, but I'm sure you'll get there.

Hi thanx for you help - I have found out from another sylva star owner the transmission tunnel needs to be widened to accomodate the magnum axle.

I now understand about the parrallel drive flanges.
