Which battery for BEC?
Just wondering which battery I should be using for a GSXR engined car with electric reverse?
I still have the bike battery and have been using that for testing purposes. If I engage the reverse when the ignition is on (engine not running), it
is as if the power to the engine is lost... fuel pump primes, throttle bodies move, needle spins round on clocks, etc.
Would this be due to the type of battery or because the engine isn't running?

Depends on your expectation of reverse, is the functionality there for legal reasons (road registration and/or MSA 'road going'
competition) or is it there for reversing up a driveway? Do you have a car starter motor, a geared car starter motor, or a motorcycle derived unit? Do
you use the car on the road, in the dark, with lights on, etc.?
My GSXR750-1000 Westfield had a Red Top 15, reversed with a Honda VFR starter motor, daylight use only. Reverse only used when legally required. No
problems engine alive or dead.
My chain drive car (R1oT) has a hooogge Rover starter acting on the rear sprocket, it's a more road going car and prospect. Reverses up and down
the drive a couple of times on an old Red Top 30. Seems about the right size for intermittent usage.
Westfield fit a PC625 battery to the original Megabusa. This has a mechanical reverse, but Westfield clearly felt the PC625 Oddessy was the sensible
size for a road-going BEC in fully lit road trim and use.
BEC ECU's complain about voltage drops. The GSXR isn't bad, it copes reasonably well. The R1 is far more fussy.

Cant see myself needing to do a whole lot of reversing so mainly there for the IVA. Will engine cutting out when reversing be an IVA fail? If not
then Ill just live with it.

Brand new car battery on my Indy with Blackbird bike engine. Using startermotor reverse causes engine to stall. Starter motors have a high current
pull.
