Aligning crank and camshaft PINTO

Hello,

today i wanted to check valve clearance on my 2.0 EFi SOHC pinto.

The engine runs well, even if it 's getting too hot.

When rotating the crankshaft , i noticed that i could not align the mark on the crank shaft pulley and the mark on the camshaft pulley.
I know that the crankshaft pulley has been changed from a dobble grooved to a single grooved.
I don't talk of a little missalignment, but more then 90 ° on the crankshaft

So , my question is : is there differents crankshaft pulleys ?

Or could it be that my engine is missaligned , but then it should not fire and run normally ?

There are two crank rotations for each camshaft rotation





I'll be in the garage dear!

That is true but the crank should always line up when the camshaft is lined up with its marks.

It definitely wouldn't run if the timing was 90 degrees out, so you are looking for an error in the position of one of the marks on the pulley.

Double check you are looking at the correct marks on both pulleys would be my first guess.

Check and see if the distributor is lined up, when either the crank or cam is lined up, you may need to rotate the engine a few times to get #1 on the firing stroke.

If the head has been skimmed it will have the effect of retarding the cam timing. IIRC Burtonpowers website gives good information on cam timing but you will need to know what cam it has

A further check should also be made that the Camshaft pulley is fitted the right way round (I've seen this before, with engine running and timing marks not lining up) also it IS possible for the metal plate that carries the cam timing marks to have been incorrectly fitted and/or rotated from it's timing location marks.

thank you for your advices.

After checking today, it seems that the camshaft pulley is not aligned , and the back plate is still more misaligned !!

Well, as the engine is runign correctly, i'll change it on next winter
