Duratec rings

In my low cost build I'd just like to check whether changing the rings is essential or not.
I have measured all cylinders and they are all within 0.0002" of each other and round and the existing top compression ring gap is 0.014" on all cylinders so I was not going to bother changing them

My essential list of bits to change are
Con rod bearings
Con rod bolts
Friction washer
Crank bolt
Flywheel bolts.
Head gasket

Any advice or things I should add (as in must add rather than just optional) when I populate my shopping trolley from burtons.

Many thanks

I don't know the answer to the above, but I have a job lot of duratec spares most of which are mountune and Cosworth acquired from ford motorsport at Boreham when it closed. There must be about 70 cams, clutches, flywheels, Pistons etc there are LOADS of bits...
I'll upload some pictures tomorrow if you're interested.

Hi m8 did you take compression readings before stripping? Seems a shame to do all that work and put old rings back in. Same could be said about oil stem seals. With regards friction washer.... it's 2 you will need and it's safe to reuse your crank bolt.

Yes definitely would be of interest.

Hornet.
Yeah I took comp reading 250.235.240.170.
I have since discovered that cylinder 4 doesn't seal in the valves.
I do agree that while I'm in this position I really should change most bits but just don't have the funds so need to be frugle. If it hasn't been for the low compression on 4 I wouldn't have even taken the head off.

Crank bolt reused?. I'm surprised considering.

When I rebuilt mine I found that the piston rings and oil control rings were seriously gummed up. I was going to change the rings, but found that you can get a set of brand new rings, pistons and con-rods from a factory crate engine for only £40. Try a few engine builders as they often take out brand new components to replace with upgraded items and are just looking to make a few quid back. Was cheaper than a set of rings!

Have a look for my Duratec engine swap thread as there are photos of my rebuild on there.

Might be of interest, but be careful, auction is just for 1 - you should be able to do better - Ford Focus, Mondeo, ST150, Galaxy, S Max, 2.0L Duratec HE Piston, Conrod, Rings

By your friction washers from caterham they cost "washers" from caterham compared to Burtons.

Good point, check Caterham for various parts, I remember they were they cheapest place for a mechanical thermostat as well as the friction washers
