WTD: Propshaft Spacer

Hi guys,

I've got an escort diff/prop going to a 5spd type 9.

1. Is it safe to use a spacer between the flange and the diff?
2. Does anyone have for sale a 30mm spacer?
3. Is anyone who has better tools than a hacksaw/cordless drill available for hire who might be able to turn me a spacer?

I made one for my locost from a block of alloy drilled and then shaped no problem and sva

I'll be shot down I'm sure but 30mm seems a bit long for a spacer for my liking?
thinking (rightly or wrongly) about the length of bolts and potential to twist the lot under load

This was my concern but there's much more qualified people on here than me!

If the correct bolts are used, and tightened correctly, the bolts don't take anything other than the tensile load along their length. There shouldn't be any twisting force on them, the friction between the diff flange, spacer and prop flange is what takes the load.

To be honest, I'd anticipated bolting the prop to the adapter and the adapter to the diff 90 degrees further round in recessed holes.

I got this guy to make me one for mx5 prop and it was around 40 quid. Made it super quick too from a diagram I drew and took a photo of on my phone. Looks good, fits well - haven't finished the build so can't comment on function yet

my mt75 adapter must have been 20mm but that was gearbox end.

I am always happy to do some lathework for a few beer tokens, what material were you thinking of ? I would need some accurate measurements for things like the spigot diameter and bolt hole location, sorry I dont have an Escort diff or prop to measure, got Sierra bits on mine.

Hi mate,

That would be amazing! I've got the prop off at the moment and we have a design department at work so can get them to measure it up and do a pretty drawing.
Would you need materials (metal) for it?
