zetec thermostat housing replacements
baz-R - 8/9/12 at 08:40 PM

after stepping back a chassis rail so i can fit my original stat housing on my silvertop zetec in my haynes roadster i refitted the engine and went and snaped off one of the heater hose outlets

as im not useing them i sawn them both off and bunged up the holes but im not sure its going to work ok properly.
new ford replacements are expensive so its looking like a s/h one but
i want to know if there are any good and reasonable priced replacements that actualy work well or good diy solutions.
the raceline one is silly money and so is the gbs one in my opinion

anyone able to help?

There are four ports on the stat'. Only one is for the heater. Ive tried the raceline water rail ect and the standard stat' housing works the best.

Hi,

If you look in my photos you will see what I have done, it is self made and has done 12000 miles with no problems.

Regards

Bob

Mine is off a fiesta xr2i 93 and only had one large stat port and 2 smaller heater size holes but I don't know how ford plumbed it all up

Nah there are four and only one is the heater.

The heater is the one on its own and it points out inlet side.
The big one exhaust side goes to the top of the rad.
Smaller one below this is the bypass and goes to a "T" between the water pump and the bottom of the rad.
Third is about 6mm and is the bleed and goes to the top of the headertank.

Mine is a 94 motor and they are all more or less the same.

Yeh I would, no scrap yards around your way ? £5 item at most at my local.

The gbs stat housing still looks to use the same stat as the raceline rail ie the bda / crossflow ect it doesnt allow for good bypass.

All I can say is ive spent my money at raceline (twice) and still removed the engine and adjusted the chassis just to refit the standard stat housing.

Its more plumbing, its more work but it just works.

I looked at the gbs one then went with standard as it was already on the engine and worked well. Simple ish to plumb and works well.

found this http://www.emeng.gentlyhosting.co.uk/Cooling/CoolSys.htm might be of some intrest
i went to 1 of the last local scrappys that doesent just load everything into a crusher!
and with with a bit of a rummage in the old engine pile found a ford stat housing on a autobox zetec the same as the one i have

looking at it i need to run a radiator bypass hose from the outlet under the stat large outlet so the coolent returns back to pump via the bottom hose to make the system work properly

the large disc on the back of the stat will block this bypass path as it opens fully
makes sence now
