Tyres for track days
As the subject above
I have had the Striker a few years now & I am hoping to finely do some track days
After sorting a lot of problems out with it.
The Striker currently sits on alloys with Yokohama A539 tyres
The question is are these ok for track days ( to get the best out of the Striker)
Or do I need to spend out on some super sticky tyres like Proxes
I might well be driving to and from the circuit in the Striker

You'll have fun either way. If you've got 500 quid spare, new tyres are always satisfying. Are the current tyres anywhere near properly worn
out? That would be my deciding factor, but I'm kinda tight. You're only talking about a second a lap. Plus it might rain on you anyway and
you'd want different tyres.

Probably the bigger question is how old are the current Yoko's?
If they're knocking on a bit.. then simply new tyres will be a huge improvement, could be another set of them, or you could go for performance
and something like Toyo 888r's. If you go for the performance type then, depending upon the milage you do (or don't do!) I'd also
suggest a soft compound as given the lack of mileage a lot of our cars see, tyres often age before they wear out, so one might as well have a bit more
grip..
Some people will say that a pure performance tyre like the 888's is a problem in the wet.. personally I've found that nothing works that
well when it's properly wet.. and up to that point a performance orientated tyre in a soft compound works better..
If you're out and it does get suddenly very wet, find somewhere to stay dry until it's not, has been my approach

To answer your question directly, yes A539 are fine for track use but you can get better.
As mentioned some road legal semi-cuts like R888R will give you more corner speed and general grip confidence. They will get you to the track and back
as well, just make sure they are road legal at the end of the day!!
If you are driving to the track, and you like pushing hard on track then I think a semi-cuts is best. Otherwise the all rounder / road focussed tyres
will get hot too quick and go hard, this won't give you what you need on track or the road.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I'd sat the A539's were a great tyre when new, but I susepct they are quite old and hard. I know mine, which were second hand went quite
hard and offered little grip. I'd see how they go!

I just put some ns-2rs on mine - the old tyres that came off were 22 years old
