Which 6 pot sounds best?
So, continuing the 6 cylinder theme, which 6pot sounds best?
Do you prefer the traditional straight 6 or a screaming V6
That is of course assuming there is a difference... (obviously I think there is, or I wouldn't ask the question... )

Options should be
Straight 6
Offset straight six (eg Volkswagen vr6)
V6
Flat 6
The correct answer is clearly flat 6

Clearly I missed that off the list to provoke a fight
VW engines with a couple of extra cylinders tacked on don't count...

Metro 6R4, i remember years ago i was a Cadwell watching a stage rally, a 6R4 was blasting round, and a lass i knew said "that sounds better
than sex" hit the nail on the head !
so locost collective, what are the ingredients for the 6R4 noise, i know it needs to rev to 9000/10000, and have a fairly open exhaust, suspect it is
also to do with crankpin angles and the firing order

Wow, I was going, straight as a favourite and then V, but that sounded awesome... I may be swayed to the dark side after all...

Smooth, go to Goodwood revival and you see plenty of straight sixes on song

Straight six for me, again rather biased as I am addicted to the scream of my GTR all the way to 9k plus. The massive flames and bangs on every
gearchange help too.

While having a V6, and love the sound, for pure ear candy you just cant beat a straight six on song. IMHO Ray
To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

Got to agree with you there. Even though I've got the newer version with the VR38, the RB26 takes some beating for pure music to the ears

BMW straight six... No question.
An ///M engine wide open sounds beatiful, even a 2litre sounds like a lion roaring in a biscuit-tin!
V6 noise is just a V8 noise that's missing something...
Edit... Flat six is nice too, current car is a 911 turbo but the turbo squishes the noise somewhat.
Btw have owned Audi 2.6 v6, rover 3.5 v8, ford 4.9 v8, Chevy 5.7 v8, BMW 2.0 I6, BMW 3.2 M I6, Porsche turbo flat 6. I6 is the best sounding six.

Most 6 cylinder engines sound good even my 6 cylinder diesel sounds ok.
