quickest way to Spa

A friend is racing at Spa and has invited me along with him.
He's driving down on Wednesday and coming back on Sunday.
He's towing and taking his litl'un so will be slow. I'm thinking of leaving as late as possible on wednesday as I'm desperately short of holiday from work - maybe I can save a 1/2 a day...

What's the quickest route?

I'm in south Oxfordshire and am happy to blat along at 80/90 to get there quickly

e40 into belgium , round the top of brussels , e314 leuven/hasselt , then down into spa .

spa is about 45 mins at that speed from hasselt .

dont try to go underneath brussels ie charleoi airport way , its a nightmare .

done this plenty of times.....

ill edit to say , dont go to hasselt !! thats the general direction.....

never taken the tunnel before, I assume this speeds things up a lot! Any gotcha's about booking/using the tunnel?

Google maps reckons 6 1/2 hours door to door. Probably add a bit for faffing at tunnel and petrol stops and then take a bit off for speeding

Does it sound about right?

I'm going over for a trackday in June and have booked the tunnel, only £106 return for a flatbed van which I thought was excellent value.

Crossing is only 35mins vs 1hr30 for the ferry. Eurotunnel is also less hassle getting on and off in my experience.

Its several years since I drove to Spa though so I will also follow the route advice given above

sounds about right. around Brussels is a little confusing but not to bad. we go via spa when on our way to the ring.

spa city is very nice. quite small though.

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I find it fairly astounding that for the price of a return fare from Didcot to Paddington (45 Mins) is the same price as a car with up to 9 people in a train in a tunnel UNDER THE SEA TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY!!!

Sorry, rant over...
