Trimming cycle wings for easier wheel removal
ElmrPhD - 19/12/15 at 10:18 PM

Any thoughts on the wisdom of trimming the "vertical", outer edge of cycle wings in order to minimize the gap between tyre/tire and wing and still be able to remove/refit the wheels?

Just wondering if this might cause any structural or aerodynamic issues that I haven't thought of.

Thanks!

Steve, in the NLs (well, currently in the USA for the holidays, but normally in the NLs...)

It'll reduce the stiffness pretty noticeably. Whether that's a problem...I'm not sure.

Hi

I trimmed mine in 2010, only enough to get my 195/50 15's off without removing the arch, there has been no issues. Most people who know my car will agree it gets some abuse, as well as in the garage leg bashing.

Hope that helps

Dave

I trimmed mine down on the outer edge as it pee'd me off having to unbolt the wings every time I changed the wheels. It didn't make any difference to how rigid the wings were
