shipping fees from usa?

if i were to buy an exhaust from the states at $800 plus $250 for shipping,total $1050.can anyone tell me what charges the blighters will charge me at this end?

VAT @ 15%, Customs charge and a handling charge

so I reckon its at least an extra £200 ish

Can't answer that specifically but wouldn't suprise me if it wasn't 20% or more.
Get the sender to gift wrap it and send it as a present from your "Uncle (or Aunt) Toni" - not taxable.

if it's something huge like that, there's every chance they'll still tax it anyway.

I think the gift limit is under £200 and at their discretion.

Course, if you get them to mark it up as a warranty replacement, you might just get away with it.

If the current "owner" of the exhaust was sending it over to you for modification, you wouldn't be importing goods and so it wouldn't attract any taxes. Obviously once you modify it you would be sending it back.
