Maglite or dewalt LED torch D-Cell size
I want to buy a decent led torch and ive narrowed it down to the Maglite or Dewalt D cell range. Maglite is 3Watt dewalt is 180 lumens, which from
google seems similar but not a direct comparison. Maglite can be focused, dewalt cant but has a hex head so it doesnt roll. Which should i go
for?
Also what effect does the number of cells have as they are the same rating from 2 upto 6 cells. Dewalt comes with batteries and slightly cheaper
too.

More cells or bigger cells will give you more battery life per watt output.

i would personally go for maglite as the bulbs for dewalt are a bit of a bitch to get a hold of!whereas maglite are available everywhere!even w h
smiths!

You can get a hex head rubber slip on thing form the maglite to stop it rolling. One of mine came with one.
Also check out "nite ize" upgrades from maglites - LED bulbs etc.

Exactly what i was going to say.
I think in europe, you can still ge the 6 x D Cell for "Added Protection" in the dark!

I've got a maglite 2D LED torch and it's really good, brilliant in fact.
There are some really good deals on ebay.

3 watt means nothing, it bears no relation to the light ouput of the torch. It could be like a candle but uses 3 watts, all depends on the efficiency
of the led used.

Maglite everytime, got a rechargeable one like the photo, had it for about 15 years and its never faultered, its a std bulb type and very bright.

Iv got a 4 D cell maglite. Excellent thing. Its not an LED one mind they are excellent too and you can get all the bits for a maglite whereas dewalt
you cant.
I want to convert my maglite over to led. Iv done my little maglite hell of a lot better light.

I got a Wickes on which looks the same as the Dewalt one. 3w LED 3 cell, for £9.99. Not sure if they still do them.
Maglite are good, as are these: LED Lenser

All the talk on the shooting websites (used for lamping for rabbits at night) a few months back was of the LED aluminium torches for sale in
Tesco's and own branded. I have to say the three I have bought have been excellent. They do D cell and AA ones!

For less than £30 I got a Trustfire 900 lumen (5 settings) LED torch from Hong Kong including a charger and 2 x li-ion batteries (with PCB) from
DealExtreme it's small yet unbelievably bright.
The battery lasts around 4 hours on the "low" setting, which is still very bright
I'd heartily recommend it

I've got a 2D LED Mag and it's pretty average IMO. They have about 50 lumen output initially, but it drops off within 15 minutes as the

LED technology advances very quickly these days, and Maglites offerings aren't really keeping up. My dad showed me a tiny
LED Lenser headlamp he bought recently, and it's considerably better than
my D cell Maglight in almost every way, much brighter (~140 Lumens), much better beam control and variable brightness. It's definitely not as
good for whacking burglars though...
Some very good LED upgrades are available for the Maglite, but they aren't cheap. If you want a really good LED torch then go for a brand that
specialise in this technology, e.g. Suerfire, Fenix, LEDLenser etc. The downsides are that the best torches don't tend to use alkaline cells
like D's, but rather Lithium (CR123A) or Lithium-ion rechargables.
