Reverse gear sprocket?? Making your own
Hi,
Been looking at the reverse kits available and after looking at the sprocket that is used in the drivetrain I started to think they aren't made
but are actually modified starter gears from a motorcycle.
Would I be correct in thinking this??
If so, anyone know which starter gear is used or could be used and would it really matter which one I chose if this is the case?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Col.

They are normaly just laser cut gears, prob less that £20 if you got a local place to cut you one out

You should use reverse gear with same teeth parameters as your starter/reverse motor (gear mod etc.)
As for sprocket - mine is lasercut from 10mm steel (just like Rosco said), then turned to have flanges for diff/prop.
Maybe isn't ideal, but it's only for reverse...

Thank you for the replies guys.
Loony, it looks as if you have about 70 teeth on the gear and I am assuming you had the teeth made to match the starter motor you are using to power
the reverse? Can you tell me the overall diameter of your gear please?
Cheers

Sprocket has 72 teeth and 156mm overall diameter (or 74 teeth 160mm - can't check this at the moment, I got two drawings).
Teeth are DP12, same as VAG starter motors...

Here's link to DXF drawing of my reverse gear sprocket (sierra diff/VAG starter motor) - if it's suitable for anybody:
