Probably a daft diff question??

When a diff is referred to as 7 inch or 7.5 inch, what exactly does the measurement refer to??

A guy is supplying me with a full xr4i back end with discs but I think this is a 7.5 inch and I want to make sure I aint gonna have to modify a standard MK chassis as I have ordered it powdercoated.

Dumb question?

Ah, so I need to drop Mk a line and tell them it's that diff so the mountings are spaced correctly?

Its the measurement across the top of the diff,if MK has not made your chassis yet or powder coated it,its not a problem, just ask them to to weld your diff carrier to except the 7.5" diff.

I wish I could type faster

If its from an XR4i, or XR4x4, I am pretty sure that it will be a 7" diff, (and possably a LSD). I think that the 7.5 one was only fitted to the Granada. May be wrong but don't think so. Cheers Ray

V6 XR4i diff is 7" non LSD.

Rear brake setup is drums as standard not discs, so if it's got discs fitted they must have fitted a xr4x4 rear end which would mean shafts would be lobro with an LSD. Failing that they've stripped the drums away, added caliper backets and done a disc conversion that way.

Or is this rear end off a 2.0 1990's XR4i ??

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
