8pm Sunday BBC2, BBC HD
"How the McLaren racing team used Formula One technology to design and construct the MP4-12C road car, whose design features include a
carbon-fibre safety cell and the first engine the company has ever built. The programme also reveals how the vehicle's sound was perfected in a
recording studio, just like a pop song. Featuring contributions by Ron Dennis, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button."
I watched the one last week about building an Airbus wing - decent programme, unlike some of the cr*p shown these days...
Looking forward to this, just to see my handy work I worked there for 6 months doing the glazing and was well impressed with the building.

Definitely on the watch list! Any idea when it was filmed?
Thanks for the reminder David, im on nights so will set the box up!!
last weeks wing programme was riveting!!
honestly it really was a good programme!!
Steve
Thanks for the heads ups! Watched last weeks programme , the hoist used for the wing that broke down temporarily made my laugh! That would of been a big problem!
I could tell a story about an international airport brought almost to a halt because a fire tender was up on the lifts in the motor pool when the lift was condemned by an insurance inspector.. Without they extra fire tender they had to reduce the category of aircraft the airport could accept.

I was talking to an airline pilot many years ago, shortly after my first-ever flight when barely a teenager... I made a comment about the way the wing
tips flap up and down... his reply was "they're meant to do that, otherwise the wings snap off!"
Accurate, but not necessarily reassuring.
ooooh you see those freshly made pistons? Automotive porn
Might apply there for my industrial placement after seeing that!
Argh... I missed it.
I was about to moan to wife, and without saying anything, showed me the SKY+ .... she had spotted earlier it and recorded it for me.... bless her!

Definitely do it! Two of my mates are on placement there at the moment as test engineers and they're loving it (despite regular 7 day weeks and 12 hour+ days).
I was quite disappointed that they completely missed out the design engineering stage, the most involved part of the process!

He used to be my cousin's husband... they're now divorced! The family connection got me an in-flight look in the cockpit, which was an amazing treat for a kid.
lewis - 20/11/11 at 09:47 PMHow do you know there's a pilot in the room...he tells you
,I work with them every day so know how boring they are bloody glorified bus drivers lol
lewis - 20/11/11 at 09:48 PMInteresting programme tonight though.

Not far wrong, not far wrong at all...
Anyway - back to the plot - I wonder if I can scrape together £175,000+ to buy one of those cars...
...on second thoughts I don't think I'll bother, I'm too impatient to wait 2.5 years!

Haha I'll use these at work.
britishtrident - 20/11/11 at 11:14 PMThe program was OK until they started explaining the engine design ---- who ever wrote the voice over script hadn't much idea about engines.
Full marks to Mclaren big gamble but Ferrari watch out they are out classed.
mark chandler - 20/11/11 at 11:27 PMFor what you get they look cheap.... the finish on those cars looked fantastic.
That was a massive loom, I,m surprised these days that you cannot just run a few fat feeds around the car and use CAN to tell boxes at each end what to do.. save a few pounds in weight.
Laughed at Ron Dennis's comment, coming second is just the first loser cannot argue with that.
Good program
LBMEFM - 21/11/11 at 06:47 AMOf course McLaren are getting used to coming second in F1 maybe thats why Dennis is back in the factory.
vanepico - 21/11/11 at 08:19 PMhamilton won it a few times ago tho? and the time before that they got 2nd 3rd i think
