Mk Indy R - RR
Hopley89 - 13/7/17 at 07:39 PM

Hi all I'm starting a new project, I'm building a Mk Indy r with a cbr1000rr 2016 engine!

I built a Haynes roadster back in 2012 but after 75% thought the build I had to sell it all due to a wrist injury at work and the fact I was broke!!

So my Mrs kindly told me now I have been saving for a wile I should treat my self and build another kit car, I have always liked the Mk's so got on the phone and started the ball rolling by speaking to both Neil and Sean.

After a good hour on the phone I decided to go for the Indy R with a full cage and side impact bars... hoping I don't have to use them but safety is the no1.

i decided if I'm going to build my dream toy then I want carbon, carbon and more carbon
so I have had all available accessories in carbon bonnet scoop, front and rear arches, dash board, tunnel box, air intake scoops, all interior panels, wing mirrors, headlights, indicators, aero screen ect ect

Breaks and wheels
I have got for the hi-spec vented and drilled front brakes and on the rear I have gone for the standard sierra discs breaks
pedal box is a top mounted wilwood with a hydraulic clutch and conversion on the cbr. new stainless braided hoses
team dynamics pro 15" with r888's all round

sierra standard front uprights ground down to save 1.5kg per upright (photo will follow)
Hi spec billet rear bearing carriers with standard 4 stud flange, with a sierra lsd with new bolt on drive shafts

I will add more to the spec in a couple of day along with pics

I will look forward to your updates on this build, especially with the 2016 CBR, You will not be disappointed with it.
I purchased and built my first Mk Indy back in 2005 when Martin Keenan was running the company when everything was supported and run correctly, I remember around 50 odd Mk's on the owners stand at Newark during the late 2000's.
I am confident Sean Smith the new owner, can get the Mk name back up there with the best of them, in the kitcar market today, and do the Mk name proud again.
I've no doubt, I will be building another Mk Indy in the future as I do really miss my original fireblade Mk Indy and my many trackdays with near 100% reliability. And only 130 ISH bhp.
Yours Wil be rapid

Rear end all complete, waiting on a few more parts
Fuel tank, lights ect but drive train is all done and breaks Bled

Hopley89 - 30/7/17 at 08:42 PM

I didn't like the sierra standard column,
so i got a bit of 55mm alloy tub and set out to make a sleeve that would go over
both the sierra alloy top section and the lower section of the column
I had to grind the top alloy section down as all the original turn signals use to fix onto
this and i needed this to be smooth to go inside the new tube.

i had to also notch out a section of the tube to go over the lower section of the column

i then cleaned up the alloy edges and got the wrap out as my interior theme is carbon
so the alloy would stand out to much!!

i also managed to drill a hole and thread the universal indicator stalk wires thought the
tube so you can't see them

What's your thoughts?

CosKev3 - 31/7/17 at 10:14 AM

Looks good

How have you secured the stalk wiring to stop it getting caught on the column when it turns?

Any chance of some pics of the roll cage from further away?

Hopley89 - 31/7/17 at 11:29 AM

the new alloy sleeve has a gap i between the original black column that's dosent move
and the new alloy so the steering column that turns isn't near the wires at all, i'll take
a few more pics later showing this also if the cage, it's the external cage so i have got 2inc
extra leg room both sides

CosKev3 - 31/7/17 at 12:52 PM

Ah yeah I see

Yeah noticed the cage was externally mounted on front, not seen that one from MK before

Hopley89 - 6/8/17 at 09:16 PM

Willwood top mounted pedal box, i had to glue a break light switch on the top
as i don't like the in-line pressure switch as you have to have good pressure before it
activates the lights, this is instant so as soon as you touch the pedal it's on 👌🏻

Gorilla glue, and a clamp had done the job nicely

What was the overall weight loss after you put the hub back into the upright?

Hopley89 - 7/8/17 at 06:57 AM

it started out at 5.57 kg
i spend a day and 5 flap grinding discs and 1 ultra thin disc grinding and cutting away
finish weight after paint was around 4.1 kg mark so neally 1.5kg loss per upright
