As above, I have a set of binoculars I bought for Goodwood revival just over a year ago and I need to get a repair done ( a part has come loose ) they carry a 10 year warranty and are as new as the day got them as they have been used twice. The warranty states I need proof of purchase which I no longer have.
I have just contacted them and they said pop them in the post with a cover letter but did not mention the receipt.
I am going to take them personally as they are fairly local (Hawke Binoculars) and wonder if they might play up about the receipt where do I legally stand ?

Ask them how long this binocular has been in production ? see if they can souce from the serial / model number the ealieast possible date of manufacter if les than 10 years you should be OK.

If they want to get picky about it they should be able to tell you the exact date of production and batch number from the SN...


Although im sure thats not why they want a reciept...


Most Waranties wont cover the item if you sell it "second hand"... the receipt proves that YOU bought the item new...

I have never had any issues with getting waranty claims without a reciept.... We are all human (most of us anyway...)

If I kept every single receipt I am ever given I would have several filing cabinates FULL of the buggers!

if they are sensible, they should help and at very least investigate to rule out any manufacturing or assembly faults, which it sounds like it clearly is.

if they want to save money and are not interested in staying in business, they will fob you off with b****cks about providing a receipt.


I never really understood this warranty stuff when you are not the original purchaser yet the itme is the same and has not dated past the warranty period.

But surely they were bought as a present ? therefore you didnt get a reciept ?

Sales of goods act still applies, any warranty is in addition.

I'd only bring that out if they get difficult, but worth reading up on your rights just in case.

Receipt or proof of purchase? Ive used a bank statement as proof of purchase before.
