Newbie - Westfield Mega Starter Kit
Rob55 - 20/5/12 at 05:19 PM

Hi guys

Has anyone bought the Westfield Mega Starter Kit? Basically a non-rolling chassis with most but not all parts. My plan is to build a racing blade to the best spec allowed by my local race series, and avoid buying unnecessary standard parts which would be included in the Full Kit.

My only questions are - how will this affect the SVA, will it make it harder to register if I have a load of non-standard Westfield parts on there? And will I end up spending money buying a lot of little odds and ends which would otherwise be included in the full kit?

Rob

None standard parts wont affect the IVA as long as they are IVA compliant, I take it that is your intention to have it as a road car as well, If so make sure you have this in mnd from the onset as you will need to consider compliance for IVA all the way through which may add weight etc ( this weight can be lost soon after IVA ) easier to lose weight than put it on lol

Hi yes needs to be a road car as well but primarily for racing. Just seen that reverse box is needed for IVA, that's a big expense just to bolt on for the test, as I will not be using for racing.

Hopefully with the advice of Westfield and this forum, I can plan the best approach to the whole thing

Are you sure you wont need a reverse for the "racing" what class is it?

NI Sevens - reverse gear is not mandatory according to the regs.

I would be tempted if I were doing what your after, to buy the cheapest parts you can simply to get it through the IVA, then once it's passed remove them and sell them on here, then fit your new racing parts.

Not the easiest method I know, but does get your car through the IVA with the minimal of fuss.

Shouldn't you ask on the Westfield forum?

I couldnt do this

It'd be either a race car or a road car, to many compromisesd imho to do bothe effectivelyy

Different again from an odd track day

Where is the Westfield forum, I didn't see one on here, or do you mean another website?

Got a good vibe off this site as people seem to really get stuck into customising and building from scratch

Yeah this one

http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/

I was a member of that for a while, but as with most forums you always get trouble makers, so I left.

Not had any issues on here yet.

I bet I could guess who that was....

To be honest I can't remember myself now, it was some years ago . I think this forum, because of the varied nature of 7 types, the membership are more in tune with modifying stuff, with specific marque forums folks can get rather ... erm...lets just say abusive to folks who want something different.

I had been looking in from the outside on this forum for some years before I joined, but glad I did.

Well guys time for an update - just ordered my new car from Westfield!

Ordered the Mega starter kit, plus full FIA roll cage, all steering components, ball joints, full nut and bolt kit, nylon bushes upgrade and AP front brake upgrade and master cylinder.

This basically leaves me with a rolling chassis - less wheels, rear brakes and coil overs.

8 week lead time until I get to collect it - cannot wait!
