Desktop memory info needed?
Im wanting to get bigger memory for my desktop as its quite slow. I got a 1gb stick for it just before xmas but it kept causing the computer to crash
so this was returned to the shop for a refund.
The current memory stick is:
DDR2
512mb
1rx8
pc2-4200u-444-12-zz
do i need to get an exact match but with bigger capacity or will any 1-2gb ddr2 do the job?
Cheers.

Get 2 x 1Gb matched sticks and ditch the 512. If you run an odd number in that type of computer you are compromising speed, slightly...

If you want to buy from aria then
this looks like it should be fine:

Faster memory is *usualy* ok running at slower speeds, though some motherboards can be very fussy.

Don't go buying any memory even if you think that it is a match for the memory you have.
After being in the computer industry for 30+ years, I can say from experience that there is memory that you can put in your PC that may appear to work
but it could be doing your motherboard and other components harm.
When upgrading memory I use and recommend users to go to the Crucial site and run the memory
upgrade program. This program runs on your PC and will advise you exactly what memory you need. You do not necessarily have to buy the memory
from Crucial but at least you will know exactly what memory that will suit your system.
Hope this helps
