Got myself a new tool

Picked up my new tool at the trader yesterday, a very nice lathe. The lathe is 14 years old, but still in very good condition, the paint is still original.
It took some time to get it of the trailer with an engine hoist, but after some scary moments we finally managed.
Now I'm waiting for the frequency converter to arrive, as I don't have 3 phase power in the garage. I can't wait to get it up and running. Rescued attachment 2.jpg

Ooooooh useful tool Nice one! Wish I had the space for that... Annoyingly I've got shed loads of space in my loft but I'm not sure the ceiling beams would handle a lathe (and it would be a tad tricky getting it through the loft hatch!!)

Looks nice..

btw: One of my young Dutch colleagues told me that his mother and/or father recently advised him to choose a Limburg girl as a partner.

nice little lathe i have got 2 harrisons. i like you started off with a 3 phase converter but it wasnt great tbh. in the end i fitted 3hp 1400rpm single phase motors to mine and they run 100 times better now. dont stall like they used to on the converter.

Nice lathe, why not just fit a 3hp single phase motor? it would work out alot cheaper after you've sold the 3 phase motor!

It would probably be a little bit cheaper to buy a different motor, but with a frequency converter it is easier to change the direction of the motor and change the speed of the motor. Futhermore I was told that a 3 phase motor runs much smoother than a single phase motor.
And as all controls work on 110V, I would probably also have to change that too, while now I can just connect all switches to the frequency converter.

Sweet.... My friend runs his Colchester Student on a phase converter and it works brilliant.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
