driving to the swiss alps. Advice?

Hi all,

My lady and I are taking a road trip in the tin top for 10 days from 3rd Sep to the swiss alps. We are ultimatly going to see glaciers and go hiking \ camping but also spend some good quality time together. Its our first year wedding annaversary!!

We are going via SPA and Nurburgring (stopping here on the first night), just because we can and then driving through Germany (via Strausburg) then on to the land of the swiss! Driving around for a bit then back again through France.

It seems really expensive there and we have the years worth of road tax already. I cant wait to eat too much cheese and chocolate and drink too much beer, yum yum!

Any advice or more to the point must see areas?

Hi,

Having just returned from a trip around Europe as you head south there is a fantastic camp site at a place called Schiltach which is in the Black Forest, the site is small but the food is absolutely brilliant and I intend to visit there again.

Schiltach is 50 miles (ish) south east of Strasbourg.

Enjoy, we did.

Regards

Bob

That's hell of a zig-zag; Spa/Strausburg/Nurburgring!!

Do you mean Strasbourg?

Whenever in Germany, try to take in as much of the Rhine Valley as you can.

Do you have hotels booked or are you going pot luck? If the former what is your route? We toured through Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France this summer.

Only things I'd say are remember to put you Vignette in the windscreen before you get there and watch the speed limits. They're pretty keen on enforcement and fines are steep.

Cheers for the link nash ill have a look.

A bit my info.

First day:

Dartford to Nurburgring (via Spa)

Day 2:

Nurburgring to Feisch.

A few days there and at Interlaken

Homebound we are going from Swiss alps to Strausbourg and stay there for the night.

Last day of travel Strausbourg to home. Late ferry so no rush as it is a loooong drive. 1 day recovery before im back to work.

When we are in swiss alps we have a few camp sites and bits in mind. We are trying to stay away from the main ski resorts as we want some piece.

We will would like to find one or two sites to stay in and will just make a list of places to try / stay at.

It seems that alot of the places we want to get to a car free zones and about £100 each to get the cable car up!

Thanks for the advice already.

Do you think its better to go through France on the way back? We was thinking of taking a route through Luxembourg.

There is a restaurant in Interlaken I still owe money to from 1981. You'll have a great trip.
