Exhaust wrapping?
As per title - Do I have to wrap heat insulation along my exhaust pipe, before it enters the silencer, for the IVA test?
What have other successfully-passed Locosters experienced, in this matter?
Apparently, the silencer itself does not have to be heat-shielded, judging from earlier comments posted here. No mention of the exhaust pipe, which
runs along the vehicle side. Please advise.
Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

No you don't. You can melt the skin off your legs but you must have all the edges because that will make all the difference when you knock
someone down!

Correct. It does not in the least consitute a hazard to pedestrians / other road users to conflagrate their legs / bum / hands on a 150 degree
centipede exhaust, but woe betide you if the edge of the Mikallor clamp threatens to nick or scratch said pedestrian.
On the other hand, it is definitely a good idea to wrap it under the bonnet - especially if the bonnet is GRP!

Thanks everybody for your advice, and especially to Steve - 'cos I do have a glassfibre bonnet. Have fitted a 4-2-1 ex-Wistfeld manifold, with
downpipe dropping through forward sidepanel. Haven't run the engine continuously, for long enough to check for heat effects on bonnet.
Didn't earlier Wistfelds have g/f bonnets, or were they Alu?

On a different note, I wrapped the entire length of the exhaust on my Moggie thou' (bought too much 2" glass tape) - not only did it cure
the fuel vapourisation problem I intended it to, but it's noticeably quieter inside too!

On mine I cut a piece of fire-proof soffit board to shape which shields all four headers.
Attached it to two of the header pipes by using large spring tool clips so it sits over the headers.
The clips slide over the ex. wrap (just but has worn through a bit).
Seems to deflect the heat away from the g/f bonnet - at least it hasn't melted so far.

Oh yeah. I would still do it. Supposed make the system more efficient as well.

I have no experience of the IVA process, but it does seem a little odd that you can get away without the need for a heatshied and yet have to cover
some poxy nut on your wishbone incase anyone gets hurt from it.
I wonder what would happen legally if a member of the public, say a small child, burnt themselves on the exhaust system whilst you were parked after
having driven from the IVA test centre with your pass certificate in your hand?
Who writes these regs?
