My project car, about to hit the road.

Thought it was about time i showed you lot what it is i have been working on there last 2 1/2 years.....
Dutton Phaeton S1 with Ford Cortina front and rear axles, Focus 1.8L Zetec and sierra Type 9 gearbox.....almost done. should end up with an age
related number plate for a 1978 car.
I have fitted my hard top, as winter is almost here .......and because my new soft top is GARBAGE. really its a terrible fit.... so another one is
needed.
sometimes you are the pigeon, most of the time the statue.

Nice one Mate 
Some people don't like them, but I built one back in about 1980, British racing green with Mk2 Escort running gear and axle and a 1600 cross
flow and Corsair 200E gearbox, went like stink 
Got it registered by taking tax disk to Preston DVLC (or whatever it was called back then) with Escort log book and all new engine details and bloke
said, "oh, we can't register it as a Dutton, it'll be OK to leave it as an Escort" 
All went well until I flogged it on, and the bloke who bought it was a maniac who got nicked for speeding a coule of times and second time the
Policeman decided that the log book was all wrong. Had a very close shave there, and nearly got nicked myself
All turned out in the end though and it got re-registered on a Q

When I built my JC Midge on a TRiumph Vitesse chassis all they did was add Sports to the description. Had a smart arse copper pull me one day with the
comment of "Doesnt look much like a Vitesse". When I explained what DVLA had done he says "I dont think you can do that SIR. I may
be getting back to you". Funnily enough he never did. Wonder why? Eventually changed the description with DVLA to JC Midge on the V5.

Thanks folks.....
Duttons that are not stated on the V5 as being a Dutton are being told by the DVLA to reregister them. its not easy these days to change the log book.
sometimes the cars need an IVA.....which they almost certainly wont get.
They really are not bad cars they handle pretty good and can be made much better if your handy with a welder to alter some of the defects. folks with
more modern kit cars are often very surprised they cant loose me on the back roads. I like them because they are cheap.....and because they have
proper boots which can be locked shut. very useful if your into touring abroad. and because no one expects much from a Dutton, it really amuses me
that folks who spend a huge wedge of cash on their kit cars are not a great deal better than my 1500 quid car.
My car was inspected by VOSA at the local office in early 2012 and they were satisfied it is what it appears to be (a 1970's Dutton) All cars
that come on the road with an old kit car log book after a lay off of more than a year are being flagged by DVLA as suspect.
They know folks are using old log books to circumvent the IVA the cars when found are given the option of an IVA or scraped! my car has had to be
checked twice in the last 4 years and its been a real hassle to get it back on the road (still waiting for my reg documents)
I personally know of a MK that has lost its log book recently as it was registered as a Dutton, the guy refused to IVA it insisting it was a Dutton
(he built it so he knew it was dodgy) he was also (apparently ) a police man (not confirmed)
I do know the Dutton owners club and other clubs of the same age have been requested by the DVLA to provide pictures of what the cars are supposed to
look like and pictures of a bare chassis. the inspections for the DVLA are now carried out by an independent company who will come to your address to
inspect the car. they need to know what the car should look like. ( i dont know what they are going to charge for this service,) but had my car not
been inspected in 2012 it would have to go through the new process.
