help blade starting q

hi there
just tried to start my fireblade indy after an week and it wont start
it will turn over but wont fire up and keeps on backfiring and smoke comes out of no 3 carb trumpet?
any advice????

Has some joker swapped your coils?

Because it is backfiring and smoke etc coming out then it probably does have fuel getting to the carbs and is still sparking but you cannot just assume that it is...

Pull a couple plugs (one off each coil) and make sure you are getting a good spark.
If the plugs are wet, do you have a second set, because bikes (esp blades) do not like wet plugs.
Check you have fuel getting to the carbs.
Check the pump stops pumping when it is primed.

Let us know what the results are from those checks and people will have more advice.

An easy answer would be to try a second set of plugs

I'd say pop the battery on charge and give it another go after a few hours if it hasnt been on an Optimate trickle charger. Bike engines seem very intollerant of even a slightly discharged battery

i have put battery on charge
and will take plugs out to dry as i have not any spare as they were covered in a little oil and fuel

i have to carry on tommorrow night as i have an early start in the morning

Hit the plugs with a blow torch or stick in the oven, insert while still hot and try again.

My blade ran to the start line at Lydden, stalled and would not restart until I did this. Blades do not suffer flooding at all.

And yes, it will pop a bit, just enough to convince you its about to start so you further flatten the battery. Honda inserted some nasty little gremlins that tease.

I agree with mark zap them with a blow lamp till you've burnt all the crap off, I use the gas ring on her cooker, spin the engine over without plugs and closed throttle untill there is no mist coming out of plug holes, I know you said it's only been a week but it depends on how long the fuels been in the tank. cars don't seem to mind stale fuel bikes just won't entertain it.
