Splitting propshaft from BEC adaptor?
DANMAN - 8/7/12 at 05:46 AM

Anyone know the deal with splitting the propshaft from the adaptor on a Fireblade engine?

I have removed the four bolts but can't get the shaft to split from the adaptor. If it's ceased on there it's on bloody well!

Any ideas?

I does take quite a hold.

You can't hit it from the side as there is a small protruding flange in the middle. I used a fine pointed stone chisel and a lump hammer and got it between the adapter and the prop and tapped it away form the engine until it came apart. The other way I was going to do it was loosely tie the prop in place so it can turn and put it in gear, leave the brake on and let the clutch out so it puts a rotational pressure on the adapter.

You have to undo it further back as well so it can pull back or it will not come off.

Thanks for the help guys.

I already had the engine cradle undone so I could move the engine forward to get it off. I sharpened a chisel and gave it another crack it it came off. Now onto the gearbox issue.....

Maybe a bit of copper grease on the face when you put it back together might help?

Good idea. That would make it easier if I have to ever remove it again.
