mk_xe - 23/3/09 at 09:47 PM

Got a car, not made by me, with an atlas lsd.

Any help would be appreciated, im thinking of changing the lsd oil

How often should i be changing oil and how much does it take.

is there a drain plug or any easy way of checking amount currently in.

Ta

I have an LSD atlas. from memory, i takes just over a litre, with the car level just fill it until it comes out of the filler hole which is on the passenger side at the front. I went to burtons who gave me valvoline Durablend 75/90 GL5 LS gear oil. It actually says Limited Slip on the bottle.

Castrol B373 or Castrol Hypoy LS

Geneally no drain plug on Ford axles to change the oil if the axle is still on the car you need ---

as above in terms of oil and quantity.

As for changes, not really an issue. For a road car I would change the oil when I changed the plate pack, which with "keen" driving of around 4000 miles a year would be once in 2 or 3 years.

All guessed though, nobody really recommends axle oil change intervals other than after a rebuild as things are breaking in.

ps i also use the durablend but never knew they did an "LS" one. I just added LS additive, only a couple of quid, but will buy the LS version durablend next time!
