If you have, can you do me a great favour and post the diff ratio's
for various engine sizes. With this I can work out different tyre
sizes to compensate for my 3.77:1 Capri axle.
I am looking at a Siera 2.0 DOHC injection tomorrow (£100)which is
fitted with 6x15 RS alloys shod with 195 65 15 tyres, which I dont
think are standard. These may go somewhere to compensate for speedo
error and decent speeds in the lower gears if the ratio is somewhere
around 3.36:1, but I think the ratio is 3.15:1.
The other alternative is a 1.8 CVH, yeah I know the are not tunable,
but it will get me mobile while I build up a decent motor after I am
SVA'd. I am in a rush to build because my barn (rented) is going to be
knocked down in a few months due to bizare planning regulations (I
finished the chassis in 5 weeks except for the suspension brackets).
Point of interest, I almost gave up searching for Mk5 uprights, and I
have found 3 sets in the last 24 hours, One set of a 1982 crusader
which came off the road a week ago and the owner only wants £25!!!

I think when you look into it you will find the DOHC is untunable whereas the CVH is, if you are on a budget pintos can be cheap to tune if you know where to look for your bits
With 125BHP straight , I dont think I would need do mod the DOHC, but the 1.8 Sierra CVH is a totally different animal to the FWD versions, and I am
told that virtually nothing is interchangeable between the two (although there was a thread stating that you could use the head from a 1.6 XR3i which
would open all the tuning opportunities.
I am still DESPERATE for the axle ratio's for the relevant sierra diffs!

The newer version of haynes sierra (0903)doesnt for some reason cover ratios,and this is the one that covers the DOHC engine.
I've got ratios from pinto and CVH models from the older manual,but i'm sure they re very different.If you do want them i'll type them out.
2.0 inj manual = 3.92:1
2.0 inj auto = 3.62:1
2.0 carb manual = same
2.0 carb auto =3.38:1
1.8 5speed same as 2.0 inj but 4 speed =3.62:1
these are alledgedly for 89on cars but as you know net info is sometimes wrong and the site i got this from is now defunct.
http://www.rhocar.org.uk/home.asp has some info in build tips and downloads and i'm sure there's something on diffs.

Here is how to save a section:-
1/ Right mouse click on one of the "Download" buttons.
2/Left Click on the third option down the menu "Save target as...."
3/ After Windows has grabed some file information it will ask you were you would like the file down loaded to. I usualy stick it on the desktop, so I
can find it.

Thanks for the ratio's,I am guessing these are for pre 88 cars, I think the ratio for the DOHC is 3.15:1.
I am going to ring Ford tomorrow to confirm, I will post the results (if any!).

The ratios were post 88,the nearest to 3.15:1 i can find is 1.6litre 4 speed economy which is pre 88 in the old manual.
The standard 2 litre in the old manual is 3.38:1,would be interesting to see what ford say as my diff came from a GLSi 2 litre and i've worked it out
as 3.92:1.
Are you sure 3.15:1 is not 4x4.

Did you use the MT75 box that came with your GLSi? I was wondering if they need a gear lever extension, I've heard that the MT is shorter than the

i have the ratios here for the granada mk3 diff, which i think is the same beast as the sierra used.
if you want them for comparison, let me know. I think the std ratio was 3.62 to 1.

Sorry, just say again what exactly you are trying to do. You already have a known diff and want to compare to the Sierra? What gearbox and/or where
does your speedo drive come from?
Final drive ratios are coded on the VIN plate so if you're looking at a Sierra check this site out

About halfway down it gives the codes for the different ratios that appear in box 10 of the VIN plate. (I've still got the plate from my old donor
and I've got a V = 3.62 ratio.)
