I have a few parts of the car that are polished ali. The problem is it dulls down quite quickly. Has anyone got any experience of polishing then
applying lacquer to the finish to preserve the shine? Or any other ideas?
Cheers.
I just keep polishing
I used to use Belgom Alu on polished motorcycle cases, worked well, lasted about 2-3 months depending on use. - Link
Thats one of the main reasons I vinyled my side panels, it just made the car look dirty and old.
You will spend a forturne on expensive polish at varing grades and nice cloths.
So my suggestion is . . . . . vinyl or paint!!
Not constructive, maybe, but I have been in your boots asking the same questions.

Polish and cloths aren't a problem. I have access to them. Just after lacquer ideas.
The problem with lacquer is you will get corrosion underneath after time and it is a big job to remove and refinish. Best to polish with solvosol
regularly. This will give some short term protection to the bare metal.

The best polish for aluminium I have come across is Meguiares, it leaves a protective film after polishing and lasts around 12 months before needing doing again. As said above putting on laquer is fine till you inevitably have to remove it due to corrosion getting under it. HTH Ray
Meguires all metal polish gets my vote
Meguiares is very good
Just polished my car using California Custom Purple metal polish that I brought a couple of years ago at Stoneleigh and promptly forgot about, So much better finish and easier to use than even Meguires, highly recommended
