How to drive a diesel tacho ?
it_cud - 19/11/08 at 09:22 PM

Hi, Am putting a diesel engine into my Westfield and want the VDO tacho to work. I don't have an ECU and have been advised I could use a LM1815 conditioner board to drive it.Although thought about the EDIS module, but requires coils to be operational. Any advice / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, mike.

Hi Graeme, Will need to work out how to post pics, but doubt they will be of any help re. my query ? The motor is a 1.7 td Isuzu onto a manta 1.8s Getrag box, if that helps any ?
Cheers, mike

Edit: i presume its got a mechanical injection pump?

i dont have a tacho yet, but intend to use a magnet on pulley and pushbike style pick up. going into a vapour digidash. might have to introduce some kind of op-amp if the signal is too weak.

not sure how else to do it. some SVA centres have a vibration sensor to accurately check rpm for noise test, but that sounds expensive....

will

Pretty sure the Tacho is run from the alternator on an Isuzu engine (corsa/astra/cavalier)
