Speedo Issue
Black Eagle - 26/11/10 at 12:32 PM

Hey All,

I'm building a Duratec powered clubbie and was wondering if anybody could help me out with a speedo problem I'm having.
I'm using a Ford Fiesta ST front cut as a donor of sorts for the engine and to (in one way) simplify the build and use the standard gear (ECU, manifold etc) to pass strict emissions in Australia. The only problem is that the Fiesta does not have the speedo sensor in the gearbox or diff and this led me to assume it is in the ABS sensors on the hubs but even then there is an absence of teeth, strong magnetic forces or anything that could make a hall effect work. We have also put the shafts back in and tried to detect any change with a multimeter.
So my question is: how do I check whether the speedo requires a pulse or voltage, how do I find how many pulses/voltage the ABS sensors give to recreate it with a hall effect?
Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers
Ed

Speedo's issue, I've given up now and were swimming shorts instead!

Speedo's in this weather are always going to present a 'size problem'!

As far as I'm aware, Fiestas over here have a speedo pickup in the gearbox. Usually just above the righthand side drive shaft.

ps. What exactly is a "clubbie"?

A clubbie is what the Australians call a 7 type car.
