Recommend me a car - again!!
Jasper - 8/5/12 at 02:49 PM

So a collegue of mine is after another car. Here's what she wants:

Up to £7k
Smaller is better - sub compact or compact
3 door is fine
Engaging/fun to drive
Cheap insurance and maintenance

Already sat in a Fiesta and didn't find it comfortable. Likes Mini's, thought about a Twingo, I suggested the Suzuki Swift, any other contenders?

BTW - I ended up with a Ford Focus ST3 after asking you guys on here and am totally loving it, especially with a better map!

I have seen pictures of relatively recent Suzuki model that had rust problems in the front suspension reaction tie bar mountings, the sheet metal bracket collects water and rusts through. The car it had occurred on was an otherwise immaculate well below average miler (as many of these cars are) and the lack of running may have been a factor in the failure. A very easy problem to spot and the fix would have been relatively easy and cheap. A large dollop of waxoyl would prevent it happening.

Get her to have a look at the Panda as well. You could probably get a new one for the budget with some haggling.

Is there something bad about the twin air? I drove on and was pleasantly surprised.

The TwinAir has a controversy surrounding its' fuel consumption the official figures say the consumption is so good it should practically never need to be refueled, but most owners find it is returning considerably worse consumption than previous comparable performance small Fiats and few are finding it is swallowing fuel at a rate that would embarrass a Jag.
The issue is a lot to do with car being engineered to give exceptional MPG in official tests but in the real with real roads and driving styles,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
