alistairolsen - 26/12/08 at 06:47 PM

Does anyone know where one can buy the pressed metal channels used on car trailers for the car wheels to run in?

Cheers

These are bike ones but may be able to supply car ones, worth a phone call.
In the search box put "ramp"

This company can fold them to your sizes.

Hello

After three track days last year, two going home on trailer I have decided to build one myself also.

These company on Ebay will supply complete suspension kits link far cheaper than I could find elsewhere.

For my build I wanted 10" wheels with low profile tyres to build a flat bed trailer, with 1500kg tyres and a 950kg braked axle and the other bits this came out at £550, the steel will cost around £200 from ISG, they supply pressed U section in 6m lengths so hopefully once painted and together I should have something complete for £800. It far more than I wanted to spend but I already have a huge car trailer on ebay another link which I am hoping will pay for this.

I ordered the braked suspension kit on the 23 Dec @ 11am, it arrived 10am the next day so highly recommended.

Regards Mark

I have the axle and bits, just need the channels now really. Have you got a link for USG?

Any sheet metal shop can form them for you, try your yellow pages!

I had my car transporter beds and access ramps pressed by a company in Falkirk called Viking Stainless Steel, Bankside, Falkirk. I provided a sectional drawing of the profile with sizes for them and they did the rest. I'm sure the press brake thay have can only do upto 3m long, so my trailer beds were jointed and welded when I built the transporter.

Use a piece of crash barrier from a motorway, they seem to replace it when it gets a bit of surface rust. Must be recycled via scrapyards
