New suspension Design
greggors84 - 30/1/04 at 12:34 AM

i have chosen to redesign the front suspension of a Lotus 7 for my Automotive Design coursework at uni.

I am thinking along the lines of on board pushrod suspension (maybe horizontal), and an anti roll bar. I have found a company that do these for Caterhams, and just seen Zetecs post sayin that MK are now doing an anti roll bar for the indy.

Just thought i would rack the brains of the experts first, any ideas, potential problems, and really amazing design concepts that would amaze my lecturer are welcome!

Thanks

The Dax suspension ought to make them stumble in their sandals:

I looked at their system at Donington on one of their Cobra kits. The suspension was ridiculously solid, far too hard for comfortable road use which seems to confirm its suitability for track use. Also the number of joints involved would make it a pig to do in a basic workshop (read shed) but for a design project I would imagine there are not many systems that haven't been tried at some time. If you do it using horizontal shocks just remember they don't all work in this plane.
