As a few of you will know i am changing the pinto lump for a zx12, the car got an age related plate at the sva, will changing the engine effect this
and what level of emmisions will i have to meet, oh and i have changed the colour! I have heard, only change one thing at once as they can get
confused, better do this soon as paper work takes time.
Mac
Changing the engine will not effect the reg of the car. I would definately change the colour first and once the documents are back from the DVLA I
would then change the engine size. You will need a letter to say what engine you have changed it for and proof that this engine has been fitted,
reciept etc I got a letter from a garage.
the dvla webiste explains the engine
change procedure.
As far as I'm aware, the only emmissions test it has to meet is whatever it was tested at during your SVA
Our Zetec still has to meet the "visible smoke" test that the original crossflow had to pass.

You are fitting another 2L engine arent you David and so no change in taxation class. You probably wont even need a recepit for the engine fitment (ie
letter headed paper from the MOT test station confirming the engine change as per Ben's car) in that case - thats assuming you need to change the
capacity at all (you will unless its the exact same cc). You also need to complete the engine number in the relevant box
Fitting the bike engine results in moving to a cheaper taxation class and thats when the DVLA definately want extra proof - no saying they wont
interpret the rules differently with your own car but i'd say just fill in the 2 boxes and send it off.
Yes mine would be a straight swap, one 2 litre for another with a different engine number.
I'll see what happens at the time. I thought it was just a cas eof sending of the ammended V5.
Sorry for the mini hijack BTW! Good luck Mac! The DVLA are a right royal PITA at the best of times!
David
Yep sorry Mac. I'd say in your case with the change in engine size taking you to the lower taxation class, you are by far in away better doing
the changes at your local DVLA office.
As Ben says, you will need a letter confirming the engine change. If you are taking the car for an MOT once its up and running, then ask the MOT
tester if they can do you a letter on headed paper confirming the new engine size and number. Draught this up yourself to make it easy for them to do
and ensure they put the correct info on.
Once you have this then complete the sections on the V5 for engine capacity and number and take this to the DVLA local office. Assuming you need a new
tax disk then you also need a competed V10 application form. Also take with you the receipt for the engine if you have one, and the Haynes manual
showing the engine capacity (they took a copy of this from memory).
You can also ask them about changing the colour while you are there that way - am sure they can do it all in one go for you.
