Hi,

Looks good, your bonnet is stainless? how thick is it, 20 gauge (0.9mm)? How did you bend the curves, round a pipe or something? was it easy?, any advice/lessons learned?

I'm nearing that point and don't particularly want to make a mess of it, if it turns out like yours, I'll be well pleased

John

Looking good!

A bit off thread but when does an aero screen become a windscreen?

Cheers Mick

robinbastd - 1/3/04 at 12:03 AM

If you look through it,it's a windscreen.
If you look over it,it's an aeroscreen.
There's bound to be a grey area.........if you are tall and the tester is short your aeroscreen might seem like a windscreen.
I'm so tall that windscreens are like aero's!
Hope this helps.
Ian
Whatever you use,wear these ->

Bonnet is Ali. 16 gauge. It is bent round a form and the heated and allowed to cool. when it was removed from thr form it more or less stayed in the right shape, only a little manipulation to get it to hold in on the sides.

Any Advice, Yes, measure twice cut once.

Havent booked the SVA yet, Still have the Chassis inspection to get through yet.

Ben I dont intend on rolling it!

Couple of comments regarding your photos - although they were incomplete, your pedals appeared to be heading towards being very high ratios - loads of force required, very little movement. Secondly, it could well be the light/photograph, but your paint looks very matt, is it a primer coat, are you planning on polishing it to a shine, or is that how you want to leave it?

Looking very good though, expecially considering the budget.

In my mind, you are building the classic definition of a Locost. Nicely done!

Graber

PS - I too am a little worried about the height, or lack thereof, of the rollbar.

Kitlooney1000 - 2/3/04 at 07:56 PM

You lot have got me worried about the height of the rollbar now, didnt realise it was so low. the paint is primer at the mo, i am hoping to get some of it done this week end, going for ford sunburst red just to be different.

scutter - 2/3/04 at 08:01 PM

Lew, do you always look that worried when you have your photo taken?

All the best Dan.

He was subconciously thinking about the height of the rollbar - or lack thereof...

Kitlooney1000 - 2/3/04 at 08:32 PM

thats the first photo of me in about 10 years, im usually the one behind the camera, anyway that wasnt worry, that was a grimice

Wadders - 2/3/04 at 08:40 PM

Supposedly the way to test it, is to run a piece of string from the rollbar down to the front of the chassis, if it misses your head then its ok, if not you better practise ducking!

I know that Sevens have rolled, but the chances have got to be a bit less than winning the Lotto Their greatest value is as a line of defense against Hummer bumpers, IMO.

Lew, my concern about your RB is that you might bang your head on it! It looks like your RB's a bolt-on, which is good if you want to change. A DAX-style bar would look good on your car, I think, and wouldn't cost much.

That's a really nice-looking car! I'd like to see some outdoor shots when you can get to it. What kind of rear fenders (arches?) do you have?

Pete

Kitlooney1000 - 2/3/04 at 09:09 PM

I do intend on using a helmet when driving.
Unfortunately the roll bars welded in place, mind you, wouldnt take long with the tool and some thin discs to hack it of. I thnk i will chance it for the SVA and if it passes make it numero uno job next winter.
The back Wings/fenders are second hand from a dax, bought of Ebay for @ £50
I would like some out door photos of my car too
