It's on it's "build wheels" at the moment but I reckon it will look dead cool
with the wide 10" low profile jobbies I have on order.

The plan is that the wheel runs will also form the mudguards and that
when loading a car on it will bump over them.
This should keep the trailer no wider than my car towing it.

I just love new toys.

i don't understand...

cracking job on the trailer though! i can't tow proper trailers on my license, plus i wouldn't know how to reverse one. quite fancy getting a cheap LWB chassis cab and making a beavertail out of it. thats got no relevance to anything though...

Hi Blake, I will try to explain.


I'm the sort of bloke that gets a kick out of making something.
I have made everything I possibly can on my car, not to save money (although it does)
but just so when it's IVA'd I can stand back and say, "I made that."
This goes right back to my childhood. Pram wheels from the dump, and an orange box
from the greengrocers etc. (What happened to greengrocers?)

I was made redundant this year and I'm determined not to "sign on," so now I'm self employed,
and a big trailer that will also take a car will be handy.

I went to see a chap that sells trailer parts to price up a scratch built trailer.
To buy all the stuff, indispension units, hubs, hitch, wheels, and then box section, angle, etc
came to about a £100 less than what you see in the photo at the top of this post.

He had these chassis in kit form that he had bought as bankrupt stock. Just pick the length you want,
then match with the cross members & axles to give the width and bolt together.
I've gone for a 10' x 6' chassis that I will make into a flat bed come car transporter that hopefully will look like a bought one.

The ones I've hired are 14' long and wider than a lorry and and a nightmare to tow on narrow roads.

The chassis was in kit form.
i.e. Everything was pre-cut, pre-bent and pre-drilled in a factory. (in Germany I was told)

The flat bed top I will make myself, i.e. buy the galv sheet, cut it, bend it and drill it, then bolt it on.
That's called scratch building isn't it?

I can see you going head on in competition with the fabricators like Allifab etc.

You need people to tell you what you want they want you to make.

Anyway lets hope there is a silver lining to your cloud (well probably stainless lining in your case ). You have the skills to do a first rate job. Just hope it will pay the bills for you.
