Footman James said £500 seems a bit steep! any suggestions?

How many points now?

2Gether Insurance (see the sticky in the insurance forum)

sounds fair enough for me, thats less than I pay for my insurance with 1yrs no claims and no accidents or convictions.

Thats less than what i pay for the jag with 3 yrs NC, no accidents and its on a classic policy

its about what i pay on my BMW 328, with about 5 years ncb

I paid £190 F/C FNCB from Carole Nash for the R1, £500 doesn't sound too bad for a poor driving record.

If you have a dodgy record and drive a kit car then I'd look at getting just a 'third party only' insurance policy.

For a start if it gets pranged, well it’s a bolt together car, so just fix it yourself and as most repairs can be done for less than the excess they ask for anyway what’s the problem. Fire and theft are up to you really, just buy a big chain (a £200 one is going to put off anyone) and carry large extinguisher.

I use to get fully comp and these days consider it just a complete waste of money given how much I ever claimed for it, i.e. never

My Bluebirds only third party and if it’s written off I'll just go and buy another for £200...

Any claims I’ve ever seen take around 2 years for you to get your money (my sisters claim took 2 ½ years and the other driver pleaded guilty at the crash) so their hardly any use for replacing a car.

FJ quoted me around £500 at Stoneleigh for a ZX9. I'm 30 with no points! They said they can't compete on BEC's. 2gether for me too by a long way.

I tried the Land Rover thing (109 1-Ton), after a really arduous time with the courts a (very) long time ago. It really wasn't a good idea to try and out-ride a pursuit. I still have it, it did it's job, but I've since subsituted a Japanese engine, it'll now break the legal limit after a good run-up.....!

Anyway, your quote doesn't seem too bad. A relative has just insured a 328i, clean(ish) record, same cost.

Every renewal I check to see what I could save by dropping to TPFT, but it never seems to be more than 20 or 30 quid.

I guess the problem is that whilst TPFT may save the insurance company paying out for your car if you crash it, it pales into insignificance if you crashed it into a Veyron or injured someone.

id stick with fully comp insurance if you happened to crash on your own say in a ditch or river your fully comp ins will cover the recovery costs, 3rd party wont we charge from £150 to more than £1000 for car recovery
