big_wasa - 4/7/09 at 06:19 PM

whats that ebay or piston heads ? Lets all have a look.

Jon Ison - 4/7/09 at 06:20 PM

well sure sounds like you was messed around, do you have a link to the car advert ?

CraigJ - 4/7/09 at 06:20 PM

Think this car has been brought up on here before. sounds dodgy as f*ck to me.

tegwin - 4/7/09 at 06:22 PM

I know how you feel... I have spent over £100 and countless hours trapsing around looking at cars this last month and all of them have been utter utter garbage....not as advertised atall...

If it is still registered as a ford siera.... walk away.... no.. RUN away! Find something else!

There are plenty of other decent ones to find im sure!

lotusmadandy - 4/7/09 at 06:22 PM

Dont blame you for being angry, it must have been hard not to slap the tosser for wasting your time and money.
If its a sierra on the v5 then it has not been sva'd and registered,so will now have to be iva'd.

Andy

Angus180 - 4/7/09 at 06:24 PM

its on ph link below, i asked how it was not sva and running at a ford serria he said his mate said it was ok!! because that a reliable source. and it hasnt got twin webbers just standard manifold. .

http://pistonheads.com/sales/1037585.htm

Jon Ison - 4/7/09 at 06:31 PM

looks expensive too, especially considering its pedigree, i can see the twin webers sticking out the top of the bonnet ?

twin choke that is.

Angus180 - 4/7/09 at 06:34 PM

sorry i think im thinking of side ones, i didnt look to closely, drove it, red lined each gear then we talked some more thats when it all came out. .

ashg - 4/7/09 at 06:50 PM

acording to the dvla it was first registered in 1991 should be black 1.6 sierra. road tax is due 1/11/2009.

the internet is wonderfull.

Danozeman - 4/7/09 at 06:56 PM

Angus180 - 4/7/09 at 07:02 PM

Angus, my comment was tongue in cheek, I would have thought exactly the same had I not seen the photos, very misleading text in advert.

Next one you go look at maybe ask about on here or relevant owners club, there will usually be someone who knows the car in question.

McLannahan - 4/7/09 at 07:54 PM

As I said earlier Angus - Good thing you walked away. Just not right to have such a recent build still down as a Sierra.

Frustrating when I know how much you want a KC, it's just such bad luck you've seen so many donkeys!

Chin up!

l0rd - 4/7/09 at 08:16 PM

So, what should we be looking at when we see cars like this one?

Obviously, this car is a complete liability as it has never been SVAd and still has the number plates on from the donor car.

What does the V5 say for KCs?

Jon Ison - 4/7/09 at 08:18 PM

usually something along the lines of

"2 axle rigid body"

And the make of the car, MK, MNR for example, or for a lot of locost "Joe Blogs Special" after the name of the builder.

Humbug - 4/7/09 at 08:26 PM

I feel sorry for you... whenever I see and ad I "might" be interested in, the first thing I do is check it on MyCarCheck - at least that should give you an idea if it is registered correctly.

The other one is DVLA but you have to know the make.

Might be worth looking at these before you trek to see another car.

matt.c - 4/7/09 at 09:01 PM

You could always buy mine?

Dangle_kt - 4/7/09 at 09:20 PM

currently registered as a ford sierra laser estate... dodgy as &^%$

iscmatt - 4/7/09 at 11:32 PM

Thats a shame that a kit car owner is willing to scam another! unless it was an honest mistake on his behalf!? good luck in your search mate, i'm sure there will be other, better, candidates!!

So if you feel so annoyed at being messed about, you could always shop the guy to the DVLA!! Revenge is sweet!!

Bluemoon - 5/7/09 at 10:47 AM

^^ Might be a good idea else some un-suspecting person might end up in real trouble (un-insured etc) and it's giving kitcars a bad name.. Mr Plod only needs to run a simple check and well...

Dan

i see there is a reporting procedure on dvla, not sure if it completly applies.

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/onlineservices/report_unlicensed.aspx

prawnabie - 5/7/09 at 12:39 PM

No having a go or anything, but this should serve as a reminder of what can happen if you go to look at a car unprepared.

A few things I would do before looking at a car is...

Scour other online ad places to see if same car is advertised else where.

Ask for more pics to your email address (if its a bogus sale chances are you won't get them).

Do a cheap hpi report (esp in view of a kit car)

If seller is builder, ask to see his copy of the mac (no one spends months building a car and doesn't take a copy of the mac).

I know you ususally have to act quick when you see a bargain, but at the end of the day just look what you could have ended up with!! Just a few enquirys and you could have saved yourself a lot of time and propably petrol money too.

Shaun

Ermmmmm I didnt......... as i'm sure did hundreds of others

prawnabie - 5/7/09 at 09:08 PM

Your names "steve g", not "no one".

stevegough - 6/7/09 at 07:37 AM

Just got to add that his advert clearly states
"no IVA hence the price".
If you read that, then noted that the car had a registration plate, you should have asked yourself the question before going to see it?

Angus180 - 6/7/09 at 06:28 PM

i swear that wasnt on the advert before!!!!!

Angus180 - 6/7/09 at 06:57 PM

hes changed the price, removed the tax and mot as that was incorrect and added the iva bit.

No worries, just pointing the obvious out as I saw it - the guy has probably altered it after your visit? - without that, it probably looked quite a bargain.

Would it be wise to report his (previously) misleading advert to pistonheads? - I don't think they would be amused, either.

JoelP - 6/7/09 at 09:34 PM

getting towards a bargain now though, allow a grand to IVA it and a grand to BEC it and jobs a good one

Jon Ison - 6/7/09 at 09:44 PM

I can 100% confirm the add as been altered, I saw and read the add before, Tax Mot included, no mention of IVA.

Its now very expensive.

DarrenW - 7/7/09 at 10:43 AM

Sorry to hear you were messed around. For a little bit more money you can buy my 2.0 pinto Mac#1, a way better car than that MK.

Angus180 - 7/7/09 at 06:05 PM

joelp, i dont think it would be good to buy and iva and bec, its a shody build, but duck tape around the hand brake, tunnel cover dodgey sheet metal, and with extra metal work in the boot where someone was building a kids seat with extra tall roll bar.
