I'd start by putting the prop in and taking it for a quick blast

omega0684 - 7/7/09 at 11:17 AM

batery and a wiring loom might help too, oh and a coolant system

Probably brakes as well

Mr Whippy - 7/7/09 at 11:22 AM

just work on getting a drivable chassis

get a pen, a note book and write a list off all the jobs

omega0684 - 7/7/09 at 04:47 PM

what opel is that?

t.j. - 7/7/09 at 04:47 PM

Thx! that inspired me.

So I first started with welding...
Now I have a burned leg and sun-burned left arm, something in my eye

But hey, i'm building and it's fun again!

Btw: Maybe someday when that island hits europe you all have to move that steering-wheel to the left

omega0684 - 7/7/09 at 04:54 PM

is it the opel GT, what year is it?

eccsmk - 7/7/09 at 04:58 PM

kadett ooh lovely :0

omega0684 - 7/7/09 at 05:23 PM

got it, its an Opel Manta A series!

[Edited on 7/7/09 by omega0684]

sebastiaan - 7/7/09 at 06:42 PM

Nope, it's a kadett coupe.

Marcus - 7/7/09 at 07:14 PM

Ah, the memories of my coupe
Possibly the only car I regret getting rid of.
Mine was a limited edition SR which I ruined by fitting a Manta engine and box, then road rallied it for a few years.....

t.j. - 7/7/09 at 07:38 PM

Hey, off topic. It's a Opel Kadett-C type C2
The C is build from 1973 - 1979.

Mine is build in 1978.
It's not orginal a GT/E which had a 2.0EH with 110 HP, with the early L-Jetronic (grey) and a 5 speed ZF

Mine has a 2.0E with 105 HP,L Jectronic (yellow) and a 5 speed Getrag.

Only the real nerd will notice because it's hard to see, i converted everything into the GT/E look including the details.

BTW: didn't you have in the UK the Vauxhall Chevette and the Holden Gemini Mark I?

Marcus - 7/7/09 at 08:24 PM

Yeah we had the Chevette, but not the Holden, that was Australian only I believe. That HSR looks Awesome BTW, but the Kadett was far prettier.
What have you done to the front of yours...looks like the front from a later Astra / Kadett grafted on...
You've got me thinking about another now...I was looking for a modern classic to play with!!

It's the orginal front with white indicators, original black bumpers with black trim, original GT/E front spoiler, and original GT/E number plate holder. (so nothing special about that )

the C2 1977-1979 had the indicators placed at the head-lights.
The C1 1973-1977 had the indicators below the bumper

Sorry TJ, I misread earlier post, I recognise yours It seems it was the Holden I couldn't work out!!
It just looks wrong

I like that Gemini look, it's different and looks very 80's.
The kadett-D (astra-D) had that look.

It's my holiday!
Allright I will go on!

Nice bonnet you made there, when will we get some new pictures?
Did you made those louvres by yourself?

BTW: do you have the aluminium for free or what? I presume you can also weld the alu?

dr-fastlane - 8/7/09 at 06:07 PM

Hey T.J,

Have a nice and productive holiday!

The last and new pictures are in this topic:

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=113932

You can also see how I made the louvres myself. And no the alu wasn’t free, but got it really cheap! Last winter bought myself a little present, a Lorch Tig Inverter Ac/dc. Welding alu is also no problem anymore.
