3.8L Supercharged Hicost....
beagley - 9/6/10 at 01:36 PM

My dad was telling me about an article this morning in his copy of Road & Track about a v6 powered lotus 7 look-a-like that resides in the UK, but he couldn't remember the name.

Any of you guys in the UK have any idea what company that might be? It supposedly uses the L67 Series2/Series3 supercharged v6 motor that was prevalent in the 90s.

Great motor actually.....

Thanks,

Beags

Well... there's GKD which are BMW-based, including (straight) sixes.

There are a few V6 powered locosts (Alfa, Ford...) too.

btw, I don't know what an L67 engine is

You are correct. It was used by general motors in these cars.....

Series 2 Motor
1996-2005 Buick Park Avenue Ultra
1997-2004 Buick Regal GS/GSX
1996-1999 Buick Riviera
2004-2005 Chevy Impala SS
2004-2005 Chevy Monte Carlo SS
1996-1999 Oldsmobile 88 LS
1996-2003 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi
1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Series 3 Motor
2006-2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GT
2004-2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

They used them EVERYWHERE! Pretty cool feature about these superchargers is the intake had a bypass valve that opened variably depending on how hard you hit the throttle. If you pressed on egg shells then the bypass valve would take over and not utilize the supercharger. Floor it and it comes to life.

...though that is a US outfit, rather than "...a v6 powered lotus 7 look-a-like that resides in the UK...". Mind you, I thought it was a bit unlikely that a UK-based company would use a US motor in a 7

had a quick look at the R&T website..

I've been out to Brunton Auto and had a ride in the stalker. Hes about 90 minutes from me crazy quick car that one.

I agree that it sounded funny that a UK based manufacturer would be using a US motor so I just went and had a look at the Road and Track website and much to my surprise this "UK based company" company that my dad was talking about.... "hammer-something he said" is none other than..... Caterham.

If I had known that from the beginning I wouldn't have bothered asking everyone. Thanks for all the input.

Beags

P.S. Most of us here in the US need that extra grunt from a supercharged v6 to haul us around..... bunch of fatties....
