Been having a chat with my better half(strange that it was about the car!) and she asked what is it going to be like on fuel.

This got me thinking, I see some people are lucky to get 20mpg.

A standard m3 weights in at 1500ish KG, mine will be less than half. It uses the standard ECU/ITB's etc. An m3 will ave about 26mpg and about 32mpg on a 'run'.

So would I be right in guessing on 30ish MPG? What are other people getting out of standard installs?

BUT remeber the std figures are for driving nicely. Drive an m3 with gusto on a track and you will probably see single figures. As indeed with most cars.
So it depends far more on your right foot than anything else. On a run I would expect similar fiures to the production car, it is probably rather slipperier (sp???) than the kit.

I get 35 mpg from my T5 engine on a long run at sensible speeds. Much, much, much less if giving it a good thrashing on track.

Aero is the real killer on Seven. Keep it under 55ish and the economy is really good due to the low mass, over that the crap aero takes over and the figures plummet compared to a tintop.

mine is a standard Zetec on bike carbs. Last time I checked it it was 38 - 39 mpg at motorway speeds.

No idea on a track or around town.

The average for my 1.4 K series engined seven (mixture of local, motorway, track/activity days) is 35-37 mpg. That doesn't sound like it would be a lot different from the 2001 Rover 25 it originally came from.

As ^, depends on style/speed of driving as well as weight, etc.

On the tour this year I managed to get 40-45 mpg this is a 2.0ltr Zetec on Bandit carbs. We did motorway speeds but mostly were on A roads and averaged 55mph.

The lighter weight is offset somewhat by the dismal aerodynamics.

Depends on the engine, my crossflow on 40's did 25mpg on a run and 8 on track, to ST on throttle bodies does 35 on a run and 18-20mpg on track.

My pinto on webers used to do around 25mpg on a normal run or about 18 on a more spirited drive. When I changed to injection that increased to 30mpg and 25mpg respectively.

The Duratec ran at around 38mpg on a run, or 15-18mpg on a spirited drive. Probably well into single figures on the track though.

Don't do any long trip but get around 28mpg std 1600 X-flow
