I'm not talking about my wedding, something much more important -1 year today since my kit arrived looking like this.

I always stick with 10 years ..... its possibly more

I clocked up 3.5 years to build my Indy - approx. 3 times longer than I originally (optimistically) planned

erm, bought my chassis in 2003, but i didn't live her at the time, so it sat a few years, and progress has been almost as slow ever since

Finished, took 5 years. 6 months of which was wasted with DVLA also moved house 5 times, (seeting up the garage and packing once a year is a PITA), and got married(!), choose to use ali for a lot of the build rather than the standard GRP parts that didn't help either! Also chose to use a non-standard engine, so had to fabricate engine mounts, ect.

Recon you could do it in 6 months if you keep it simple and "standard" indy and spend most weekends at it.

They have just had a change in ownership/management meaning they are chasing their own tails. But considering they took over at the end of August im disappointed im still kitless and havent been kept in the loop. Sadly im not reailly in a position to spend time on the kit now (baby due any day now).

I started in May 08 I think? so coming up 3 years.

Scratchbuild using none of the standard donor parts (not one I can think of) on a budget of nothing makes it slow, but then so does building two trailers, sorting a track car, rebuilding a Jago jeep and keeping a buget daily hack on the road!

2 years or so I guess since I started collecting parts.

I think its 6 or 7 years now

15months scratch built haynes roadster. oh and i had a 3month break when the weather was really bad so 12 months in actual time spent

i can never understand how people take so long to do a bolt together kit. long hours and lack of time? I do 12 hour days at work and very frequent out of country trips for work usually killing weekends. with all that going on i still managed to scratch build a car, refurbish my new house, write for ckc magazine and moderate the haynes forums.

Started 11/8/2005, sva'd 14/12/08 but will never be finished.

First time I built the car it took 2 years 6 months ,in a garage 10 miles from home working weekends only. The winter rebuild to strip the crap powder coating and repaint took 4 months start to finish

I had mine about 4 years before it was finished. I had 2 years off kind of with house move and baby etc.. Now been on the road for coming up to 2 years.

Just over 6 months from collection of kit to passing SVA. But then I did cheat a bit and started with a fully welded chassis. I've also got a very understanding wife who didn't see much of me over the winter of 2008!

First decided to give it a go almost seven years ago.
Had a break from collecting parts/building etc. for a couple of years due to unforseen circumstances.
Hope to finish it before I croak.

4 1/2 Years scratch built. with a 4 month break to decorate. Thought it would be about half that, realise i spent too much time on certain things, but would do it agin given half the chance ( and am ) sort of.

it took me 2 years to build frim scratch a book built car (with book built errors) and compared to some my build was sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

Yeh but most of us spend more time on here than in the garage. Apart from that there are lots of unforeseen circucmstances such as other halves getting themselves fat, loss of jobs etc. etc.
In my own case I've done very little apart from build up a huge amount of parts, most of which won't fit. Plus I've moved house and needed to learn to weld which I've done. If I could spend the same amount of time on the locost as I have to on keeping my Rover working I'm sure I could have finished it by now.
To cap it all just as I deem my welding good enough to get cracking on the Locost my wife's gone and bought a house clearance and she expects the whole contents of a 3-bedroomed semi to fit in my garage.
Anyway it'll get finished eventually even if petrol is 100 quid a gallon by then.

well this thread seems to have turned into a penis waving contest!

Just remember some of use build for fun: So long as you are enjoying the build no problem with taking ur time aslo my wife and familly is a LOT more important than the silly 7!!

It dosen't really matter how long U take... Some want to build quickly to drive it quickly others just have fun building and driving... Each to there own IMHO..

I still can not believe that some "members" on this site can still be building what is effectivly a lego kit car and take 10 years

I do and have always worked full time, 12 hour shifts, and even after a 12 hour day, last week spent 6 hours in the garage working,

During my build, i put a new bathroom in, had two berevements to deal with, and had two house clearances to assist with and i also had a pretty nasty health scare to myself,


Yet i still manged to do it in 2 years, and even that was taking the wee a bit

I had no internet, so no usefull help from fellow builders, and the only two builders i met (Hicost and JB) was 2 months before getting on the road,

Sorry, but i just dont get it, on how it can take so long
