Gladly. The alternative of course is to make a set of plans which might be better as i could then make the chassis to fit any type of engine.
I was thinking about maybe an old Straight 8 or even 12 would be quite good fun.

speedyxjs - 13/1/11 at 05:27 PM

Me too! That woudl look and sound great with a Jag XK engine

eddie99 - 13/1/11 at 05:30 PM

That would be very nice

MakeEverything - 13/1/11 at 05:34 PM

MG Wire Wheels

Daimler V12 and gearbox (Not sure if manual - Speedy?)

Propshaft passing between your legs might be a bit concerning

Naaah, dont be such a wuss.

Mal - 13/1/11 at 05:44 PM

Go to somewhere like the museum at the Donington Circuit, with your tape measure, find a car that takes your fancy and take some basic dimensions, with their permission of course. A museum may have drawings of a car in their achieves.

speedyxjs - 13/1/11 at 05:45 PM

How about a front mounted transaxle to make it front wheel drive lol. Imagine the understeer

Updated, but not visible unless you read it all again!

Do you think its possible to get one through IVA? - With cycle wings of course.

Would be a bit costly but XJ40/X300/some 80's BMW getrag boxes fit with the right bellhousing. A few hundred quid iirc

The louvres and the strange fin behind the front wheels may be an issure but other than that, should be ok

eddie99 - 13/1/11 at 05:54 PM

Wow, you guys are just as good imagining as me i thought i was a one off

One-off Renault 5 based single-seater:

MakeEverything - 13/1/11 at 06:02 PM

Ive got a good plan for the chassis in my head, made out of seamless stainless square tube. It involves two ladders from the main cockpit to the front uprights and a section across the front. Suspension turrets would also be made out of stainless plate, to take the springs and shocks.
With the two triangulated ladders either side, and triangulation through the centre between the sides it should be man enough for the job.

stainless hoops for the front and rear bulkheads would be a good enough support for the bodywork and the panels all hand formed ali (what a nightmare that would be).

Instruments to be basic, and lighting minimal to satisfy IVA - if not built for hillclimbing....

bloody hell, i think weve got a plan!

designer - 13/1/11 at 06:17 PM

There are some plans in the Project pages of my site, and links to scale drawings on there too.

ettore bugatti - 13/1/11 at 06:25 PM

Nice idea.

I remember there was around the late nineties a racecup with modern racecars, but with the same driveline layout. It used a Cosworth 4 cilinder with a 2-2,5 liter capacity IIRC.

You're not the first btw:

They seem to be busy developing the GP57 kit car.

jimmyjoebob - 13/1/11 at 06:34 PM

That Renault 5 based special had all the glass fibre bodywork done by my mate Stuart. It was featured in one of the kit car magazines and the owner conveniently forgot to mention that someone else had made the bodywork

PSpirine - 13/1/11 at 06:35 PM

If you decide to seriously pursue this, I can try and arrange to allow measurements to be taken at Heritage Motor Centre - although I'm not entirely sure what single seaters there are. I know there are some, but I can't recall off the top of my head.

Depending on specific measurements required, a Jag/Land Rover engineer may have to accompany you, but still an idea.

Obviously no promises, but thought I'd let you know anyway.

Cheers,
Pavel

Who needs a Jag engineer when we have Speedy!!!

Thanks for the offer. Not sure if the pipe dream will become a reality in this instance, but its certainly feasible.

These were Wheatcroft's Formula Classic cars. Holbay 2.4 motors. I did the shocks on them

ettore bugatti - 13/1/11 at 08:30 PM

Exactly!

Really fancy

Ronart... Linky

stevebubs - 13/1/11 at 08:53 PM

Fisher converted a Leader into something similar.

Do a search on Fisher Sprat

iank - 13/1/11 at 09:35 PM

How about the Fiorano Type 48 Corsa Spyder

http://www.corsaspyder.com/Home.html

Spitfire chassis so no IVA just an MOT.

IIRC the Fisher Sprat used some of the bodywork but not the spitfire chassis (though my memory may be wrong).

ettore bugatti - 14/1/11 at 09:44 AM

I also look into designing a fourties/fifties single seater car. (Maserati 4CM or ERA)
If Im right the track of the MGB axles are about right, although getting 16" wire wheels and tyres might be a problem.

I was thinking to use Spitfire uprights with tubular A-arms and at the rear I would love to have a de Dion axle. Perhaps rescaling the design so 15" wire wheels and tyres would not look out of place.

dirth - 14/1/11 at 08:09 PM

The race car series, was run by the Wheatcrofts, chassis was by, I believe ,Bob Egglinton(apoligies if that is a mis-spelling)

He did a number of chassis/kitcars can't remember the names, but I'll dig them out

He also did a Maserati replica, which was featured in Filby's Kit Car Builder, again I'll dig out articles if anyone is interested

Ronart do a Vanwall at a horendous cost

Brooke 245 was a Renault 5 powered 50s kit.

If anyone wants more detail PM me
