Ok, iv been thinking over the last few weeks about the locost and i really dont have the time or money to finish it certainly this year and i dont
have the room to leave it in the workshop for a whole year so i am considering selling it for a spridget/spitfire etc that me and the g/f can use in
the summer and i can ahem...modify... in the winter 
I know it a bit of a piece of string question but does anyone have any clue as to what a straight six locost would be worth. All it needs is a bonnet
and some IVA proofing and possibly some tweeking to gain a bit more steering lock although, having driven it today, i think it might just about be ok.
I would think quite a lot more if you get it on the road before selling it 
I'm sure you're aware you'll get more selling it IVA'd.

Yeah i know that but i just dont have the time or money at the moment. work is at that point where it is busy but not busy enough to employ anyone to take some of the load off.

I reckon scrap metal prices must be about £200 per tonne. On that basis and with the engine you've fitted, you'd probably get about £1,000
Seriously though, it'd be a real shame having got this far with your build only to sell it. You've got a responsibility as a Locostbuilder
to finish it and get it IVA'd before you can even consider selling it.
Besides, I want to see if it will actually go round corners.......

Forget the trailer and tow car. Drive it to IVA and save yourself a grand.........

didn't think about hiring a car and trailer! I was going to drive it to IVA but then i found out the nearest test station it 80 miles away! Id
hate to drive there and break down (knowing my luck) and lose the price of the IVA test.

I must admit mate, i doubt you would get £2k for it. A decent spridget would cost you anywhere from £2,500 upwards and will need some work. Cheapest option would be to get it through IVA by any means as cheap as possible by driving it to the test centre, then selling it if youre not happy with it. Complete, you should see £3k - £4k for a reasonable budget finish, and upwards of £4k for a concourse finish.
well, months, a year, whatever. if we all thought that when we bought our cars/chassis/pile of steel, then we'd never have got anywhere
GF's have a habit of losing all our money just means my car's going to take another bit longer than i hoped

80 miles to the test centre, PIECE OF CAKE. IIRC I drove mine about 85 miles each way.
Ran like a DREAM. Got a bit wet on the way back but the smile on my face said EVERYTHING.
Oh and it WAS the first time it had turned a wheel.

I drove mine to the test center in Maidstone.............via Fisher's place...............and clocked nearly 400 miles on my first proper drive -
got a bit of sunstroke/heat exhaustion due to it being a baking hot day
Logic says that since it will be worth far more finished and registered , you would have to be mad to sell it now
you have an industrial area to run the car round to get it proven .......

It seems a pity to sell up now - you can probably scrounge a tow car and trailer, so cost wise you're only talking about ca £700 to get it
through IVA (you wont need tax/insurance to sell it as road legal).
I used to have a mk3 spitfire (25 years ago) and believe me, if you haven't got time to finish the 7, you won't have time to keep a spitfire
in trim! Unless you really love cutting away rust...... You'd probably be better off going for an early mx5(eunos's seem especially good at
not rusting) for £1500, supercharge/turbo it, nice wheels etc and then accidentally turn it into a donor in a couple of years.

It's just the 90% blues. Leave it alone for a couple of weeks, then go in and give the workshop a really good tidy up, and you'll probably find you are ready to start again. If not leave it a bit longer. Selling it now would be insane.

Seriously though it does sound like there's a couple of afternoon's work to be done, and I imagine you'd be better off asking for help
to finish it and then decide not to sell it rather than sell what is effectively a heap of metal now.
Speedy! Get it finished and road legal for 2 reasons (1) the value and (2) the accomplishment. Otherwise you'll get next to nothing for it and always wonder what could have been.
