I "sold" some car parts to a gent for the sum of £650 a 4 weeks ago and an agreement was made verbaly that he would buy them. No deposit was
paid. Despite several reminders to come and collect and pay and even an offer from me to deliver if he has the cash at the other end, they are still
in my garage. I do feel he is stalling as he has no money and as they are a bit rare he does not want anyone else to get them(he is a trader and
engine builder)
Today I had another offer for the same stuff and some other bits equating to a sale of £900.
Morally as I have a "verbal" agreement I should wait for person "A"
BUT person "B" has more cash and will collect this weekend
Choices choices.
Sell em.
Seems you have been more than fair.

Did you agree to hold them for a month whilst awaiting payment?
If not, then it's fair game to sell to the next interested party.
He's had four weeks, time enough to let you off your gentleman's agreement without worrying about it I would have thought
take it
no deposit no agreement !!!
if i really wanted something cash laid down everytime !!!
Sell them
If he was serious he would have at least left a decent deposit as a sign of good faith...
no deposit , no contract
stuff the other muppet and sell em
TAKE THE GOD DAM MONEY
sell sell sell
You can't be expected to hold them indefinitely and you've reminded him several times, so sell them to the next bloke.
Phil
The first entry on the list of The Rules when it comes to selling stuff reads like this.
1) Whoever shows up with the cash first gets the stuff.
That's how it works.
If you're selling stuff, you really don't need such nonsense.
If he had been honest up front and said he was interested but needed a little time, that would have been quite different.
i feel you should sell to the chap with the penny's as the 1 guy as had his chance
Keep them for the first guy.....
Only joking, get as much as you can, flog em on
Think Its unanimous. Take the best offer,
Sold to person B!
And if person A turns up afterwards ask him where the F he's been
Sell 'em to the second guy, no hesitation!
You are obviously a decent bloke for even thinking about the first guy in these circumstances and after making you wait 4 weeks he simply doesn't
deserve that kind of consideration imo.
Do it with a completely clear conscience and don't look back for even a milli-second
John
IMHO you've held items for a month with no deposit which is more than reasonable
Take the better offer from buyer B, and if your conscience is concerned Email/letter none buyer A and inform him you could no longer wait and the
items are no longer for sale.

After I posted this yeasterday I emaile "A" and said if I didnt hear from him by 8.30 pm the stuff would be sold to someone else. My phone
rang and he said he would be with me tonight to collect and pay in cash by 7pm. I told him thats great and that if he did not the other chap
"B" is comming over any way for some other parts and he will buy them if he is a minute late. I could almost see the panic in his face.
I shall report later
When buyer A turns up, tell him that you already sold the parts to buyer B just a few minutes ago....... Just for the laugh and to see his
face/reaction...........

Does this apply to ebay as well?

I managed to flog him some other crap while he was here.RESULT.
Add that to what I got for the westy and I dont know what to get. I might just enjoy an empty garage for a while.
