Battery / Fuel Tank Sharing Same Compartment

Is this a no-no?

I only ask as my chassis has a compartment for the fuel tank and there is ample space to stick something else in there.

Its not good practice to cary flamables and corrosives next to each. But if thats where the space is.

Its how bmw have done it for about 15 years.

As above, it doesn't seem very logical but many current cars out there have them very close.......

Jaguars have batteries and fuel tanks in the boot.

Thee problem is in event of an impact the battery terminals shorting out through the fuel tank result 600 amps = red hot fuel tank + sparks.

You will find on modern tintops even if the the battery is not near the fuel tank it is much better protected from shorting.

there is a member on here, I think his user name is shaft. He built and passed IVA with battery, mounted above the tank, in the rear of his GBS zero. Maybe worth sending him a u2u and see what the IVA man siad, if anything, about its location.
