Whats it worth
jon200 - 12/10/11 at 01:28 AM

Hi i have been to look at a Locost as my first kitcar but i think the guy is asking a little too much for it. Can you give me some advice on what you guys think its worth please.

English axle
Digidash(not sure what make) measures RPM and speed etc.
15" alloys with good rubber(17" also included)
1.8 blueprinted Zetec. Ex race engine from somewhere(forget where now)
New manifold(4-2-1)
New exhaust to bring the Db levels down for track use.
Shiney red paint
Small screen thing
Omex (i think) engine management
Custom inlet plenum(still running injection)
Swirl pot and low/high pressure pumps to feed it.

It is very well put together and not bodged at all.

He is asking 4k

I am sure there are more things but i cant remember them at the moment

Well based on that incredibly fact filled and accurate description.....no idea.

big_wasa - 12/10/11 at 05:51 AM

Has it been Sva'd/ Iva'd and road reged ?

Is this his words or yours. If his, be very wary. You could end up fully stripping and rebuilding.

With that description sounds a lot.

^ +1

sounds way overpriced to me. A "Blueprinted" engine isnt anything without the paperwork to prove it, and an ex-race engine is likely to be nackered anyway.

At best, for an unregistered locost youre looking at £2-3k, and up to £5 if it is registered, but to be honest the description makes it very hard to judge.

A very bad time to sell a kit at the moment, but a good time to buy. Finished IVA'd and on the road main steam
kit cars are selling for around that figure, or less. A Westfield sold on ebay for £4500 and a Tiger Super six for less than £3000
Have a look at finished listings, cars with a high starting/reserve are not selling, the ones that do sell are going for as little as £2500
Finished listings

sorry I need to get more information, I think its well put together compared to some on ebay etc. I will find out about the engine. I do trust him though as he's a relative of a friend.

its fully sva,d since 2006 and has mot but no tax. I will sort a picture out asap.

Say no more. . . .

jon200 - 12/10/11 at 01:59 PM

was that sarcasm or serious?

apparently the engine was a spare and didn't have any traces of oil in the sump when he got it.

TimC - 12/10/11 at 04:19 PM

Jon,

If you want a second opinion and it's local, I'm happy to come and have a look with you?

jon200 - 12/10/11 at 06:12 PM

Here are some pics on the exterior.

franky - 13/10/11 at 03:32 PM

If it's priced right it'll sell. Sold mine and it was a little more than 4k.

jon200 - 13/10/11 at 06:58 PM

its a very pretty car I think. I have found out some info now.

Acewell digidash
Stoller ex formula ford engine
std mk2 escort brakes
15" and 17" alloys with good tyres
Omex 600 ecu
Griffon inlet manifold
4-2-1 exhaust manifold
Raw silencer
Type9 gearbox and a 4.1 diff.

jon200 - 14/10/11 at 07:44 PM

Anymore ideal on value? I guess if you like it then its the one really. I like a challenge anyway.

hicost blade - 14/10/11 at 07:58 PM

I think you could get better if you spent a little more

I'm in the process of getting new windows and doors so the money is just not available at the moment. I know what you mean though, I think my budget it right in the middle. Just below a good one but too much really for a locost. If that makes sense.

gazza285 - 14/10/11 at 09:46 PM

Pretty car, apart from that small aluminium panel in the dash.

jon200 - 14/10/11 at 09:52 PM

I have some Carbonfibre sheet at work that i have been saving for this sort of job I knew it was worth keeping for the last 5 years. I'm not sure how to trim it though it tends to fray when cut.

DixieTheKid - 14/10/11 at 09:55 PM

Looks and sounds to me like a drifter! Im basing that comment on the diff ratio and the basic interior.

I sort of know the guy thats selling it and he's deffo not a drifter lol.

alfas - 19/10/11 at 06:38 PM

looks nice on 1st view, but if you watch the picture more often and check all the little details i think its rather a 2.5 car than a 4k.

kitcar prices are down AND the season is over too, which again drops the prices.

its actually a buyer´s market.

Only you can answer that one.
The problem is, if you are not happy after you buy it, will it cause any agro in the family?
Just a point to ponder.
You pays your money, you takes your choice. . . .
To be fair, it looks like it was built with a certain degree of care.

I thought the dash looked naff as well, more on/off buttons, than my wife!

Also the nearer we get to shite weather (winter) the value will be more elike 2.5-3k MAX
