I'm after a bit of feedback to see what advantages/disadvantages people can see in the following non typical layouts, and which ultimately you
would prefer in an all out performance car... (ie: a focus on aerodynamics, best driver vision/experience)
Fore-aft would surely give you an excessive wheelbase?
Make it a three seater ? Not much out there like that other than the sd storm.
I believe you could get the rear seat right up behind the front one, with the passengers legs straddling the front seat, so that config shouldn't
affect wheelbase too much
3 seater becomes very wide, and you end up pushing a lot of air around - I'm thinking two seater
As I see it:
ForeAft
Plus
Center driving position
No left/right CofG change when carrying passenger
Better aero characteristics
Neg
Longer wheelbase
Slightly reduced passenger visibility
SideSide
Plus
Better passenger visibility
Reduced wheelbase
Neg
Increased drag
Off center driving position
change in CofG when carrying passenger
Just to add a bit of balance to your last post, 3 seats can be well packaged and offer quite a few advantages, universal, central driving position for
driving on both sides of the road, (according to the law!) lots of leg room for up to two passengers. luggage space for the obligatory lemans
trip/euro road trip. As well as offering a single seater race car perspective, it provides me with more room, than other products on the market, being
6'4" and 20ish stone

I do like the 3 seater configuration, but it's just too wide for what I have in mind - otherwise I agree, it's the best way to do it...

Option 2, because it is unusual.
Fighterjet style is already done with the Furore.

....
I think the most unusual one would be fore-aft with the passenger in front
You'd be able to tell you're driving's scary by the smell
